We had a 9:30pm reservation on Valentine’s Day but we made it to Tuscaloosa early so they were able to seat at around 8:15 so that was nice. We sat at a two person table by a white wall just behind the person greeting customers as they walked in. Before we placed our order I saw a bigger table empty next to a pretty brick wall and asked our server if my husband and I could be moved to that table. Our server asked the greeter and the greeter had already promised that table to another couple. No problem. However, our server mentioned that the couple sitting at another larger table had just ordered their dessert and as soon as they were done my husband and I would be moved to their table. We ordered our food from a Valentine’s Day Menu. I ordered the Cesar salad which was very soggy and very bitter. I tasted bitter mustard and bitter vinegar. I also ordered the chicken, garlic potatoes and sautéed spinach. The chicken was very dry. The spinach was very slimy. The mashed potatoes weren’t even real potatoes. They were instant potatoes with no seasoning and no flavor. During our meal I watched another larger table by the pretty brick wall sit there empty. I was waiting to see if our server would move my husband and I like she said she would. I saw her go up to another couple sitting two tables in front of us by the ugly white wall and take them to the bigger table. Our server never moved us to a bigger table like she said she would. Then the last thing I noticed as we left was another couple who had just gotten their food. The girl ordered the same chicken dish that I did. I noticed she had about three times more of the potatoes then I did. I wondered why she had a much larger portion and I had a much smaller portion when we both ordered the same exact dish. Not that I would have eaten more of those disgusting fake potatoes, but I was just curious. Overall, I am giving this restaurant a zero out of ten. The food was over priced and very disgusting. If your hungry and happen to drive by this restaurant, keep driving and find something else. This was the worse Italian restaurant I have ever been to.
Response to owners post: Of course I did not bring up anything to our server. I understand she was busy and maybe just forgot to move us so I wasn’t going to push the issue. She just served the food, she didn’t cook it. She was sweet and tried her best I’m sure so of course when she asked how is everything was I told her everything was fine with a smile. I didn’t want to make her feel bad. You and I have different opinions on the potato’s which is perfectly fine. You’re entitled to yours and I’m entitled to mine. We ate everything, didn’t cause a fuss and still tipped our waitress.

The pasta was cold and the portion was very small. It also costs a lot. Not recommended at all. Do not go. Looking at other reviews it seems like it’s not the first time that the pasta was served cold and yes, I told the waitress that the dish was cold and she asked me if I wanted it to be warmed up in the microwave and that would have made it even worse. So I ate my 20.90$ pasta, payed and left, and I will definitely never come back

My wife and I went here for date night. We were seated promptly at our reservation time. The caprese salad tasted very fresh, especially the tomatoes and mozzarella. The Scampi with deglazed white wine sauce was incredible and so was the chicken florentine with prosciutto and Alfredo noodles. We ended the meal with some exquisite tiramisu. The service was kind and we could even see the kitchen. You can really tell they put a lot of heart into their creations, which are very reasonably priced. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a delicious meal in a relaxing environment!

Had dinner at Sugo with some great friends this Friday evening… Walking off the busy University Boulevard you will be greeted by the amazing aroma of a busy Italian kitchen and a light roar of cheerful conversation. Seating is tight but comfortable and the staff are friendly and attentive throughout the meal. Our waitress was well versed on the wine selection and had some good recommendations for my wife. Our food was hit and miss. I ordered the Veal Florentine that was served at room temperature. The “cream sauce” was sliced provolone that was melted on but had cooled and reconstituted please see the provided picture. The spinach and prosciutto under the cheese were cooled below room temperature. The linguine noodles were flavorful but slightly undercooked. My friends son ordered the chicken Alfredo which he said was good but was plated like it was prepared from a buffet, see pictures for reference. The Eggplant parmesan was on point as my friend who never eats more than half of his meal almost finished the dish. The Caprese had a unique plating, more like a salad but was fresh and full of flavor. Overall we all enjoyed our experience at Sugo.

Sugo is my new favorite restaurant in Tuscaloosa, and I always stop in when I’m there! The food is delicious, and the portion size for the price is amazing. I always have leftovers for lunch the next day. The tiramisu is my absolute favorite! The staff is friendly, and the owner always walks around greeting guests and checking to make sure you’re enjoying your experience. Definitely give Sugo a try! It will likely become one of your new favorite spots.

Our family enjoyed the meal so much! From the fried ravioli appetizer to the shrimp scampi entree with the house red wine, it was delicious! My kids particularly loved the gnocchi soup and pasta bolognese. Service, host and manager were all kind and sat us quickly! 10/10 recommend!

I have been here twice and loved it both times! My favorites are the Gorgonzola pasta and the chicken florentine. Also you must try the Parmesan crusted chicken, it is fantastic! The service has always been great, and the food is quick, fresh, and generously served. Also, they take reservations which is rare for downtown and I appreciate.

Had a reservation for 30 and Sugo did a great job! We had the table set up perfectly and food was hot and delicious. Sugo did a great job dealing with a large party and would 10/10 recommend again!

Update…
If you have sold that many pieces in question due to when I was there the place didn’t have but maybe 8 people besides employees there.
And as far as the sauce, if you order your tomatoes from Italy they would have to be picked green and ship…. Unless it is shipped as a sauce….
But anyways hope you have a nice day…..
The presentation of the food is well done, however the food itself is not so good.
The spaghetti with the chicken parmigiana tasted like Chef Boyardee and not good….
The Chicken Florentino was good according to my partner.
The manager did comp the Chicken Parmigiana and gave us a dessert for the bad food.
The Tiramisu was not good either…. Too much Kahlua….
After talking with the manager all the staff in area kept staring like it was a bad idea to have said anything..
Maybe they should have paid attention to the tv that was playing Kitchen Nightmares…..
Will not be back…

The pork chops over polenta were so delicious! Juicy, flavorful. Can’t wait to order it again. The gnocchi soup was also rich and comforting. The tiramisu could use with more coffee flavor, but it was light, fluffy, and a big portion!
