I have lived around the corner from Sugar Shack for a few years now and have always enjoyed walking there to get a donut and a coffee. They have such a wide variety, but I usually stick to the same thing at most places I go. There can be some anxiety about trying something new, but today Jovan (I think that was his name- I really hope I got it right!) was so wonderful and helpful in helping me try out a different menu item than what I usually get. He seemed to be a bit newer there and was very friendly, making sure I felt comfortable taking my time deciding on what I wanted and helping me choose. He made sure to tell me about the specials they have, which no one has ever told me about. I thought he just meant seasonal donuts at first. I also learned they have an alternative coconut whipped cream which would be nice for my vegan friends. Sometimes when I’ve come here, I felt like an annoyance to the employees. I don’t take it personally because I also work in customer service with food, but to have such a knowledgeable and kind employee was very pleasant. There are many other lovely employees there! I just wanted to give a shoutout to Jovan. Not to mention the coffee is amazing! Featured in the photo are the Cronuts (they are absolutely amazing – had to get two!) and a Lemon Poppy donut.

Tucked away on a quiet corner in the northern part of Richmond, this small donut shop may not look like much from the outside, but it’s an absolute gem for anyone who loves creative, delicious donuts. While the parking situation is a little tight—just a few spots out front—I had no trouble getting in and out quickly, which was a pleasant surprise.
Once inside, the first thing that caught my eye was the incredible variety. This shop doesn’t just stick to the basics—they offer a wide range of unique and inventive flavors that you don’t typically see at your average donut spot. We decided to try a few different ones, but two really stood out: the espresso donut and the Samoa donut.
The espresso donut had a rich coffee flavor that was bold without being overpowering—perfect for a morning pick-me-up or to pair with an actual cup of coffee. The real star of the show, though, was the Samoa donut. If you’re a fan of the Girl Scout cookie, you’re in for a treat. This donut was everything we hoped it would be—sweet, slightly chewy with that toasted coconut, caramel, and chocolate combination that hits all the right notes.
The staff was friendly and the vibe inside was cozy, making it a pleasant experience all around. If you find yourself in the northern Richmond area and want to try something local and full of flavor, this little donut shop is well worth the visit

best donut shop ever!! $13 (after tax) for an assorted 6ct is an amazing price considering the wide variety of flavors and the unique flavors!

Huge variety of donuts, fair prices. Parking can be tight. Only gripe is on the apple fritter, very few apples in it 🙁 looking forward to returning.

One of the things I miss most are donuts when I went vegan. I literally search out vegan donut shops whenever I travel. This place is just off the i-95 in Richmond, VA, so a perfect stop on my drive from FL to VA to visit family. Altho this isn’t a vegan place, most of the donuts here are vegan-friendly & they taste heavenly! Oh & pricing is great! $20 for a dozen. I know some places that charge extra for the word “Vegan”. $4-5 per vegan donut is not uncommon.

The staff, specifically at the Lombardy establishment are genuinely the kindest people ever. Everything is always great, and i’m a firm believer in the environment at food places displays a lot and makes the experience 100x more welcoming. Shout out to all of them. 10/10 recommend.

I usually get the red velvet donut, but this time i decided to get other things. The caramel pretzel one wasn’t bad! The caramel is good and complements the pretzel, i went near closing and unfortunately the pretzel was stale i think next time i’ll probably try it again in the morning. Worker was nice! Blueberry donut was good, it reminds me of a blueberry muffin! Pretty sugary!

If you are near the Carver District in Richmond or anywhere near the confluence of I-64 and I-95, do yourself a favor and get off the highway to try this wonderful donut shop. The yeast and cake donuts are outstanding. You can actually taste real maple syrup in their maple glaze. Similarly, the depth of the chocolate flavor in their chocolate cake donuts is leagues better than most. I didn’t try the coffee but I will next time. This is now a must-stop for me when I’m in or near Richmond.
