The food was phenomenal. We shared the biscuit board and were fighting over the last biscuit. Made from scratch and drizzled with honey, they were perfect on their own, but then add the strawberry butter and it was next level.
Our sweet server, Daphne, was just the ray of sunshine we were looking for this morning after a long day yesterday. She recommended the shrimp and grits and it was the best grits I’ve ever had. I’m always hesitant to try grits because they’re either good or awful. These were next level creamy, excellent flavor and the shrimp like icing on a cake.
We would absolutely come back for breakfast again.

I rented a car in Memphis to drive to Arkansas, and after getting off the plane we were hungry and wanted to stop somewhere that wasn’t out of the way. A young lady suggested Sugar Grits. Unfortunately, the service from our waitress wasn’t very welcoming. She seemed uninterested and a bit standoffish, and at times when we spoke to her she stayed behind the counter instead of coming to the table. The lady who was mopping the floor was actually friendlier than our waitress.
As for the food, my sister enjoyed her breaded steak and cheese grits. I ordered an Omelette with cheese grits, which was just okay. Overall, it wasn’t a bad experience, but it’s not somewhere I feel the need to return to.

Honest review. So me and my son ate here this past weekend. I was excited because the sign said FRESH cinnamon rolls everyday. So we both ordered French toast, bacon, eggs, fried potatoes, OJ……. French toast was good, bacon was great.. eggs were cold and potatoes were hard. But the most disappointing thing was that picture that is attached. The cinnamon rolls weren’t even warm, they were hard, had no taste, and the icing tastes like it was spoiled. I will assume that was the manager that came over and simply said “you want these removed”??… I was stunned and just said yes- she didn’t ask me what was wrong, why didn’t I like them or anything. The pictures are very deceiving and paying 66 plus dollars for that is crazy work. Our server was very nice though.

WOW! Amazing food and wonderful service! My boyfriend and I had Jalieesa as our server and she was absolutely amazing. She provided great food recommendations and was just overall a joy to be around. Food was 10/10 and customer service was a 20/10. Thank you for a wonderful breakfast experience!

The various choices of grits is amazing. The different flavor combos are great; my favorite was the duck & grits. Loved the food and atmosphere so much I got my picture with the owner and staff and bought a T-shirt.

Sugar & Grits is a true hidden gem in Memphis! The food is absolutely delicious — every dish is made with care and full of Southern flavor. The grits are creamy and perfectly seasoned, and the breakfast options are hearty and satisfying. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff go out of their way to make you feel right at home. You can tell they take pride in what they do. Whether you’re stopping by for breakfast or brunch, this place never disappoints. Highly recommend to anyone looking for great food and genuine Southern hospitality!

I am totally confused as to why the service is so slow. No wait to sit, 20 minutes to place order. Ordered food. It came out one plate at a time with 15 plus minutes in between. The plates so hot you couldn’t touch them. Meaning they had been sitting in a window as the plate was hotter than the food. Asked for syrup for pancakes and grape jelly….4 times. Finally went to the counter. Got the jelly it was 10 minutes longer for syrup. Pancakes had been on the table for 30 minutes and cold. Now have a cranky 4 year old because she couldn’t eat. We have now been at the table for an and a half and part of our order hasn’t made it to the table yet. Server asked about 30 minutes ago if we just wanted it to go. WHY???

Asked for a refill of coffee 15 minutes ago and a glass of water…

The 2 moms sitting next to us,, same thing 2 moms, 3 kids. One plate of food brought out 10 minutes ago. Kids are hungry. Only is getting to eat. All our tables have empty or half empty glasses. Nothing being refilled.

The food is really good but the service is horrid.
Oh….and 20% gratuity is added to your bill automatically. Service not worth 1%. Maybe if the servers are getting a great tip there is no reason to work for the tip???

Today was our first time here and it was incredible! While walking in, a couple walking out passed us by saying,” the service is about to be amazing.” That’s never happened to me before. We were seated quickly and Vernon was so helpful during our entire meal. He was attentive, answered our questions thoroughly, and even gave us a house special (sweet tea with lemonade ice-ee in it? Delicious ). We had catfish and grits with a monkey bread as a shareable. We highly recommend Sugar grits (ask for Vernon) and we’ll be stopping by at least 2x month for great service and food.

Well let’s just say I probably won’t be eating here again . I called in a pick up order & it was thrown together looking like slop. I ordered the Charleston Cheddar Grit which is SUPPOSE to include cheese grits , blackened shrimp , onions , peppers, andouille sausage and cream sauce. I had to ask them to remake my order because the order looked like soup with a bunch of onions . Once the order was remade I made sure to ask for the cream sauce on the side. My meal was $20+ for a scoop of grits ,3 shrimp, 3 sausages , a splash of cream sauce, and a pinch of vegetables which is absolutely RIDICULOUS!!! The food was extremely bland bring back the old recipe, the old cook and better portion sizes. These grits used to be filled with flavor and definitely worth the price . The restaurant has definitely fallen off since it’s been under new management. The menu states one prices but they will charge you something else . There was a 20% gratuity charge added but the menu stated there will be a 10% gratuity fee for all to go orders . On top of that I had to wait almost 10 minutes for someone to assist me if the business is that busy there needs to be a host there to assist customers. Overall the young lady Daphen did a great job assisting me through this terrible experience.

I recently visited Sugar Grits in Memphis, Tennessee, for brunch on a Saturday morning. Based on reviews, I anticipated a potential wait, and I was told that the food would be worth it. While this was accurate, the wait time was approximately 45 minutes to an hour, which was longer than expected.

Initially, the establishment appeared to be slightly understaffed, leading to delays in service. Despite this, once we received our food, it was truly enjoyable and worth the wait. Interestingly, some patrons seated immediately received their orders within about 15 minutes, suggesting that staffing levels improved later during our visit, possibly when a manager arrived and adjustments were made.

The staff was generally friendly, although there was a minor issue with an initial order that was lost and needing to be re-entered. The server was apologetic and attentive afterward, contributing positively to our experience.

In summary, Sugar Grits offers excellent food that most likely justifies the wait, provided you have sufficient time and patience. I recommend planning ahead and being prepared for a potential delay as the team appears to be responsive and committed to delivering a enjoyable experience.
