They have come through on specialty cakes for years for us and this year was another great one. We wanted to honor our recent trip to Singapore so we had them build the iconic Marina Bay Sands Hotel. Each tower was a different flavor and filling. The cakes were delicious and the visual was another incredible “Wow!l” from the crowd. Many thanks to the team for taking care of us all these years.

I came for their burnt almond cake for my birthday each year. It’s moist and tasty, a bit too sweet for my taste. Best if taken with coffee without sugar. It’s a better deal to buy individual pieces instead of its ) inch cake IMO.

left is real cake and right is my original design. Little deviated from my design and lost the cute feel. Also two sweet for me. And charges $155 for 8 inch while a regular 8 inch cake in their store costs $60. This cake only has a special monster on it which costs $95 additional bucks

The individual cakes still looked amazing but not every one is a home run.
– The Chocolate Opera is still as good as the it was the first time
– The Guava Mousse is delicious from top to bottom, both layers of cake and guava mousse. This may be my new favorite.
– The Hazelnut Chocolate Napoleon was pretty good but the bottom layer of vanilla sponge cake was a bit stale. If you like Ferrero Rocher, you’ll enjoy this.
– The Mango Raspberry Mousse wasn’t bad. The layer of vanilla cake was good, the raspberry mousse was sour and the mango mousse was good but the mango flavor wasn’t strong.
– The Lemon Cheesecake is just a regular thick cheesecake with a lemon coating on top

The individual cakes looked amazing but they weren’t that good.
– I’ve had better Tiramisu for a lower price. Fancier does not mean better.
– The Chocolate Opera was delicious and my favorite. I enjoyed the coffee flavor on this a lot more than I did the Tiramisu. The chocolate ganache is dark chocolate so it is a bit bitter.
– The Green Tea Cheesecake tasted like regular cheesecake and is dense.
– The Chocolate Truffle Cake wasn’t bad but wasn’t great.
– The Turtle Cheesecake was super sweet so if you have a sweet tooth, this is for you. It is a dense piece of cheesecake.

update: ordered a custom cake for a work event and it did not only turn out perfect but also tasted amazing!!

My favorite bakery in the sf bay area! Everything tastes so amazing and looks so pretty! Never been disappointed.
I’d recommend to definitely try the burnt almond. Also tried the double cheese cake for the first time yesterday (recommended by the person working there) and while I’m not a fan of cheese cakes, it was delicious and I’ll definitely get it again.

I ordered a birthday cake and they cancelled it the evening before the birthday. I admit it was a late order, but they shouldn’t let me place an online order in the first place if they don’t have the bakers to bake it. I managed to get a great cake for less than 1/3rd the price.

Now the birthday is done but I’m still waiting for a refund to be initiated which they cannot process because the store manager is the only one who can do refunds and is never around. Again, if you cannot fulfill an order, they should at least refund the order automatically. I wouldn’t recommend this place, their cake is overpriced and the service is terrible.

I had read several reviews about the burnt almond cake at Sugar Butter Flour so I decided to stop by when I was in the area. The pastry case was full of all kinds of pastries that ranged from small individual servings and full sized cakes. I got an individual size burnt almond cake and yule log. The burn almond cake is a vanilla and chocolate cake with amaretto custard filling and topped with whipped cream and almonds. The yule log was chocolate cake with a custard filling and chocolate ganache icing. Overall, I was underwhelmed with the desserts. The burnt almond cake just tasted like almond extract and the yule log wasn’t anything special. Based on these two desserts, I likely wouldn’t return to the Sugar Butter Flour.

Their chocolate cakes are generally good and I would recommend them. However, the service in the shop leaves a lot to be desired.

I ended up reaching today 3 min before closing time to pick up one of their chocolate cakes, and the hosts/attendants had already closed shop, shut off their lights and were on their way out.

They refused to serve me. I guess it’s totally their prerogative to close shop whenever they want regardless of what the Google timings say, but to me it just seemed extremely unprofessional. Is any of this beyond the pale ? No. I am, though, left to wonder if this unprofessionalism and lack of regard to customer satisfaction is endemic and bleeds into other aspects of their operation.
