Sugar Bean Coffee & Cream is located in Evia Village, which is a picturesque, walkable neighborhood near Moody Gardens. the area feels very European-inspired, with pastel houses, tidy streets, little bridges over water, and at night—especially during Christmas—it’s genuinely beautiful with all the lights. if you’re not familiar with Evia, it’s less “touristy Galveston” and more quiet, curated, and residential, which makes this spot feel like a hidden pocket of charm.

the main draw for us was absolutely the location, decor, and overall vibe of the shop and surrounding buildings. it’s cozy, aesthetically pleasing, and a lovely place to stop and sit for a bit.

as far as service goes, it was… fine. not rude, but not especially warm or engaging either. after reading other reviews, it does seem like the level of friendliness may depend on whether you fit the baristas’ “ideal” customer vibe. we didn’t experience anything standout in terms of customer service.

drink-wise, everything we ordered tasted good. we mostly had frappes, which are solid and enjoyable, though they’re also harder to mess up than a standard latte. no complaints there—just nothing particularly memorable.

overall, I’d still recommend stopping here, especially if you want to experience Evia Village or enjoy the atmosphere. just go for the setting and the drinks, not necessarily for exceptional service.

I gave Sugar Bean another try, hoping my first visit was just an off day. Sadly, the experience was much the same. The barista, different from last time I was here was still cold and unwelcoming. No smile, no greeting, just a transactional vibe that doesn’t match what you’d expect from a cozy neighborhood café in Galveston.

Maybe it’s the Evia setting that gives off a more polished, exclusive feel, but that shouldn’t translate into snobby service. The area is beautiful, no doubt, but a little warmth behind the counter would go a long way. Galveston has its own laid-back charm, and Sugar Bean just doesn’t reflect it.

Cute spot, decent coffee but still missing the heart.

Grateful for this gentle little coffee shop environment I discovered. The lighting is gentle. The decor is sparse and tasteful. The huge windows let in copious light, leaving the whole place feeling clean and airy.

I’ve been struggling with my health and this is the first time I’ve been able to make the drive from Houston to Galveston (to see relatives) on my own for months. Before I met with family, I just needed a place where I could reward myself with a mocha and unwind a little bit from a long, hard drive.

Thank you, Sugar Bean, for being that place.

We came to this cute little place while visiting Galveston. The coffee was great. I got a strawberries and cream frape and it was honestly better then Starbucks but it is the only thing I get from there. My daughter and cousin loved their drinks. We walked around the little boutiques that were there and watched the turtles in the little water way.

Super cute decorated place with merch.

Cashier could’ve been friendlier, not outright rude but not polite or nice either.

Iced Lattes are terrible. No espresso taste at all. Not enough ice. Gave it to me overflowing out the top dripping everywhere, messing up my hands and shirt. Just tasted like lukewarm milk and I know lattes are milk heavy, I’m a coffee drinking expert, but this is beyond that and out of balance. Couldn’t drink it.

Disappointed in the Service—Such a Letdown for a Prime Location

I really wanted to love this place. Sugar Bean Coffee & Cream is in a gorgeous, prime location, and the shop itself is adorable—it has the perfect beachy vibe. But unfortunately, the customer service was absolutely terrible.

From the moment we walked in, the staff was cold and unwelcoming. I asked one of the employees if the shop was locally owned—he didn’t know, asked someone else, and then just told me “yeah” with no further conversation or interest. It felt dismissive, and honestly, it was just poor service all around.

The coffee itself? Totally forgettable. Nothing special at all, and definitely not worth the experience.

We’re actually exploring buying a beach house in the area, and experiences like this make us question if this is the right spot for us. When you’re in a location this beautiful and sought-after, top-tier customer service should be a standard, not an afterthought.

I won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend it.

I love this place. The interior is cute and the atmosphere is also good. The vanilla latte is delicious, but the fruit smoothie doesn’t fill the cup which is a shame.

This is the kind of place that makes you feel like you have your life together just by walking in, and the cappuccino is the main character. It shows up hot, velvety, and confidently balanced, with that sweet spot where the espresso tastes bold without turning bitter, and the milk is silky instead of foamed into a biology experiment. The foam cap is thick and creamy, not a sad bubble hat, and every sip has that cozy, toasted richness that makes you pause mid-thought like, wow, yes, this is what coffee is supposed to be. Bonus points because Evia is straight-up beautiful, with those charming streets, tidy landscaping, and that “I should take a casual stroll and pretend I’m not checking my emails” vibe, so the whole experience feels like a mini vacation you didn’t have to pack for. It’s the kind of cappuccino that makes you judge every other cappuccino you’ve ever politely tolerated, and suddenly you’re considering moving to Galveston and becoming someone who “has a regular spot.”

Despite the beautiful weather, atmosphere and view, this place serves terrible coffee and has terrible service. Visited this location for the first time yesterday, All three baristas were too busy talking to even listen to our order and my drink came out wrong. Moments later, I came back inside and was greeted with the ugliest look, and she snatched my coffee away from me and made me a chai latte. What I originally asked for. Worst chai latte ever how do you messed that up? I’m not too sure.

to the lady that remade my latte I’m sorry that you have to do do actual work, and pay attention at your job.

I’m a Galveston local and in the restaurant industry and genuinely feel like I should not have been treated that way. Won’t be back.
