I ordered my usual footlong sandwich. When I was about halfway through the sandwich, I bit on something very hard – a sharp piece of METAL in my food. This approximately one-inch rod of metal nearly chipped my teeth and then slipped into my throat before I could stop it. I choked on this 1-inch rod of metal, but was luckily eventually able to bring it up into my mouth in time. After this, I was able to spit it out.
I will be attaching a picture for reference. For the picture, I dug through the sandwich and placed the metal rod on top of the sandwich for easy viewing. I think it is likely something broke off in the toasting machine during the sandwich-making process and lodged in the sandwich or a handheld tool broke and wasn’t noticed.
When I called to let the store know about the incident, the first employee gave me attitude and hung up on me. The manager became defensive and tried to shift blame. NO apologies were given and the staff failed to confirm that the equipment would be inspected for damage. From their language and attitude, they couldn’t care less that there was metal in their food or that someone choked. No one bothered to ask if I was alright.
I will be considering legal action against Subway for negligence and complete lack of concern from employees (and the incompetent manager) for consumer safety.
This location is very poorly managed. In the past, I have waited 20-30 minutes for employees to arrive (during open store hours). It seems they can show up whenever they want or take breaks for however long they want, with no accountability.
