It’s a low-income city Subway. During our urban hiking trip, we stopped here for some sandwiches. Lots of the food Waterbury has otherwise does not cater to an athletic palette very much– you can only eat so much oil, sugar and caffeine a day, and we don’t drink. That narrows our options down drastically!
It’s mighty hard to walk here because the city’s walking infrastructure really takes a dive at this point. But it’s probably safer to walk than drive in this city– well, this review’s supposed to about this Subway and not the whole city! But yeah, awkward spot.
The servers were super helpful, helped refill our water bottles (there’s no public-facing water tap. Just soda. Yeah). They seemed like they were on auto-pilot, just waiting to finally be free. As with many urban franchises it emitted a piercing loneliness, something which I’m sure uppermanagement tacitly ignores or delights in, ’cause y’know, money’s gotta get made somehow. Waterbury ain’t a city where dreams come true, I can tell ya that much!
Now, this might be surprising, but I’m not a big sandwich guy. My palette was spoiled with all the American essentials growing up. Junk food, fast food, and sweets. So when my buddy went out of his way to get the most basic sub, which had like a little meat and like nine other things on it, I was like an offended cat the whole time I ate it. No shade on the food, I just don’t like sandwiches, period! But I still ate it ’cause I needed something not terrible for me to stomach all that hiking.
You can probably tell I’m doing anything but talking about the Subway because there’s not much else to say about a competently run yet forgettable inner-city franchise.
It’s interesting to me that most of the big franchises are relegated to the car-dominated section of the city which is very averse to sidewalks and crosswalks, while the rest of the city is simply there beside it. And it shows ’cause the actual inner-city has incredible one-ways and intersections. The idea of driving in Waterbury makes me concerned!
I guess if I had any complaint it’d be the prices, but like what can ya do? Fifteen dollars for a sandwich… that’s kinda just par for the course for a complex sub made at an eatery. Any cheaper than that, you gotta do it yourself. So technically this place’s dirt cheap for the value, buuut, the economy’s just awful right now so it still feels sort of insane.

I ordered pizza using my rewards and I went for pick up and the white guy who is in the counter said me that if you order using rewards I gona cancel your order next time and I don’t why subway got the rewards and he uses bad language with the customers this my second having the problem with the same guy in the morning time like 9:30 am . One of the worst subway I have seen in my life .

Ordered two sandwiches. One with white bread got whole grain instead. Sandwich pretty much empty. Second one was steak and cheese sandwich damn near empty too with no cheese. How you forget cheese with a steak and CHEESE ? Right. Then two of the add ons were missing. Clearly they didn’t feel like working today.

I would leave zero stars if I could the older man working in there that is extremely rude and has terrible customer service. I ordered a meal with a bottle of Pepsi and he gave me a fountain drink. I showed him my receipt and my order on the app showing that I selected the actual small 20oz bottle of Pepsi and not a fountain drink. He refused to give me the bottle that I selected and paid for and insisted that I take the fountain drink, arguing that the receipt says 20oz. I then showed him that the bottle of Pepsi is in fact 20oz and he still would not rectify his error. He was shouting at me and telling me to leave the restaurant. There are so many other subways in this city I will never go to this one again and I don’t advise anyone else to. I was picking up the food for my lunch for later in the day, which is why I specifically ordered the bottle of Pepsi and not the fountain because the fountain would be melted and watery and gross by the time I actually eat my lunch later in the afternoon. He started to accuse me of trying to get things for free, as if I didn’t pay for my meal. He was extremely disrespectful and honestly disgusting behavior. He should not be working there or any customer service job for that matter.

The guy that works is extremely rude. Talks to customers like they aren’t the ones bringing money into the business. I went there he was very arrogant and rude to me yelling at me very disrespectful. Very arrogant . Won’t be going back here .

I called to cancel an order and was told it would get voided since doordash messed up the location! The kid working said she would tell her manager who starts work at 12pm to void it and if unable to that I would get a call which I never did. The order was processed as “picked up” and when I called the girl had an attitude but never explained why I wasn’t made aware they were unable to void it.

Horrible service, the young lady who attended me was having an attitude that I didn’t like at all. She even hid the meat options to us. I’m not a client that goes often to Subway, but I never had a bad time until now.. I wish for her attitude to be a bit more humane and not look at people like if they are a bother by coming to the establishment. Nothing personal but I will not doubt to give a review… my review might change if next time I get attended and it improves. P.s. my sandwich had little amount of meat.
