This is certainly a popular place, and understandably so given the popularity of sandwiches with North Americans. The decor is pleasant enough and the staff is friendly and helpful. For me, the food I had was good, and though the atmosphere is pleasant, I’ve had better food and found even more charming and pleasant seating, both indoor and outdoor in other places nearby.

The new Sub Station has quickly become the best food and beverage place in Cotacachi, and the default gathering spot for my friends and me.
Owner Yannick is trilingual and a wonderful host, and his kitchen produces consistently excellent breakfasts and lunches. The Friday fish fry features Corvina perfectly done in the British tradition (you even get real malt vinegar), and brings out much of the town.
Favorite sandwiches are the Philly Cheese and Chicken Pickle. The three veggie/vegan sandwiches are great as well, and Yannick knows his way around a salad. It’s the only place in town to get local Roger’s amazing artisanal beers, and you can also get hand-crafted ginger schnapps and other homemade specialties.
There’s plenty of outdoor seating in front and back, and it is kid and dog friendly.
If I could give more than five stars, I would. Yannick has really raised the bar on Cotacachi food, beer, and hospitality.

Oh my gosh, I LOVE Sub Station! Employees are very friendly and provide excellent service. They have quite a good menu with other options besides sandwiches. I have bought subs to go quite a few times and they are all delicious. My last purchase was two full subs, one with French fries and one with salad. The total for that order was $10 for everything. Very reasonable.

I moved to Cotacachi in June when the 2 week quarantine was still in effect – horrible timing, but so fortunate to have Yanneck and his wonderful team (all fluent in English) to bring me their wonderful food. After quarantine, the Sub’s Station quickly became a regular spot for me to hang out, work (one of the few non-retired people here) and meet people either in the open front area, or the beautiful back patio. On my lucky days, Yanneck’s beautiful daughter runs around and plays in the beautiful garden in back (I’m here as we speak/write). Amazing food, ridiculously awesome service, I’ve fallen in love with this place and the people that work here – it’s also possible I’ve fallen in love with the homemade ginger shots…. Yanneck is also involved in so many ways to help this community in this desperate time where people can barely feed their families due to the lack of tourism during Covid. Thank you for inviting me and making me feel like part of your family.

The food is always fresh and well prepared nothing special. The best thing is the bread, which is made fresh in their bakery. They have vegan and vegetarian choices on the menu. It so one of the better restaurants in
Cotacachi. It has outdoor seating in their garden and in front. The owner is the the baker. He is friendly and often there to greet and talk to guests. They have daily specials and a pretty good fish and chips. I highly recommend.
