While in Webb City, Missouri this afternoon, I decided to stop in and check out The Sub Shop Deli, a local, family-owned sub shop that’s been around for quite some time. I asked for a recommendation and was pointed toward their most popular sandwich, the Super Combo, which is similar to an Italian sub and comes fully dressed with lettuce, tomato, onion, banana peppers, and their house-made Italian dressing.
I ordered the sandwich along with a Diet Pepsi and sat down to eat. One thing I immediately appreciated was the nostalgic, old-school feel of the place. The sandwich was wrapped in classic white butcher paper, which instantly brought back memories of sub shops from when I was a kid.
After unwrapping the sandwich, I noticed it was well dressed with plenty of toppings and a generous amount of their Italian dressing. Unfortunately, once I started eating, the bread became the main issue. It was extremely dense—so much so that it completely overpowered the rest of the sandwich. No matter how good the toppings were, they couldn’t balance out the size and heaviness of the bread. It left my mouth very dry, and I ultimately couldn’t finish the sandwich.
On top of that, my Diet Pepsi had an odd, almost medicinal taste, which made it unenjoyable as well.
That said, the service was good, the atmosphere was pleasant, and The Sub Shop Deli seemed fairly busy during the lunch rush. However, the Super Combo just didn’t hit the mark for me. I ended up throwing away about half of it, mainly due to the bread overpowering the entire experience.
Grub Score 4.9/10.0

So friendly, clean, even the bathroom! Food was great and well worth the price. Speaking of.. prices are very affordable, especially for the portions you get. This was my first time to eat here & will definitely go again.

I do love the prices and sandwiches but stay away from anything that is hot! The hot sandwiches are just heated up in a microwave and the spaghetti is put in a Styrofoam container and heated up in the microwave which releases toxins into the food!

Very large sandwiches at very reasonable prices! I got a 6″ tuna sandwich with Provalone cheese which was recommended by the lady taking my order and liked the suggestion. Since this was my first time at this sub shop, I had them load up my sandwich as typical tuna sandwiches do not have various condiments added. Everything was fresh including the Potato salad. The thing that stands out about this sub shop is the size of these sandwiches. The pictures below are of a 6″ sub. The sandwich and potato salad were enough to fill me up! I will definitely go back and try their other Subs!

Interesting little place with kind employees. Love that they make their bread and sauces and cut their meat fresh. They load your sandwich down with lettuce. It’s nice to find a local place with a unique style!

Biggest freaking subs in all of Webb City! Chrissy and the old guy with the handle bar mustache are the cutest couple I’ve ever met. I love them!!! I loved the sandwich even more though . They even do catering, so let them feed your guest at your next party instead of the other Johnny Jim guy because they are just the best!

I love this place! And I love supporting small family businesses. I always get their specialty, Super Combo sub. It has a great Italian dressing on it. Their sandwiches are HUGE and their prices are great. I can only eat a half sub, but I can’t resist a little cup of their ham & beans to go with it. And I just discovered that they can remove some of the bread from the inside, if you like less bread!
