We have been to Stroud’s many times over the years. It is always so incredibly delicious. The gravy is the best part. I love the ambiance. The property is really pretty if you want to take the time to stroll around before or after your meal.

Our meals included soup or salad, our meat of choice (chicken fried chicken shown), side of potato choice, green beans, gravy, and cinnamon rolls (they’re more like cinnamon biscuits, but they’re so fresh and they give you at least 2 pieces). We added the macaroni cheese side.

These photos were taken on our last visit, for our 21st wedding anniversary, which was a few weeks ago. We wanted to have a really filling, homestyle dinner before a show. Our waitress was on top of everything. The host and hostess were so welcoming and talkative.

I will say that there are times when it is really busy, and there may be a long wait, especially if you have a large group. As their menu states: be patient. They’re cooking you something fresh, something that isn’t sitting under a warmer.

Such a unique historical establishment. This place is not just a come sit, eat and leave! There is things to walk around and see on the grounds, a pond, geese, old church!

A limited menu, but the food is amazing, every dinner comes with a choice of soup or salad. Your meat, green beans, potato of your choice, and the famous cinnamon rolls.

Don’t panic if you look at the menu, the prices may look high, but for what you get, I promise NO one can leave here hungry, it is well worth it.

This is a must come and visit to experience the vibe and taste.

Get away from the chain restaurant and enjoy some AMAZING local cuisine!

I recently made a long-anticipated return to this Stroud’s location, a true KC staple that has been serving up its famous pan-fried chicken for decades. I went back after several years away, eager to relive the comforting, homemade dining experience I remembered so fondly. Unfortunately, my recent visit was a letdown, marked by a noticeable and saddening decline in food quality. The biggest disappointment was the food, which felt like a shadow of its former self. I ordered the chicken fried chicken, and it was, while edible, incredibly bland and unseasoned. The coating lacked any depth of flavor, and the whole dish felt distinctly uninspired. Even more jarring was the side dish. I am almost positive they are now using boxed instant mashed potatoes. For a place known for its classic comfort food, this corner-cutting measure was incredibly noticeable and truly detracted from the expectation of a homemade meal. It’s a sad sign that the focus on quality seems to have been sacrificed. On a positive note, the interior of Stroud’s is still exactly as I remember it. It’s homey, cozy, and hasn’t changed at all, which is part of its nostalgic charm. Our waitress was nice and attentive, keeping the overall experience pleasant from a service perspective. However, it is truly sad to see what appears to be corner-cutting at such an institution. While the atmosphere remains inviting and the service friendly, the food no longer delivers that unmistakable homemade, soulful experience I had been expecting to return to. Stroud’s has been a Kansas City favorite for generations, and I hope they can bring the quality of the kitchen back up to the standard that this beloved establishment—and its loyal customers—deserve and expect.

Been a family favorite for decades. Come prepared to eat because the portions are huge and served family style if you’re a party of 3 or more. Not just a chicken joint, their salmon is also excellent. They have a little something for everyone.

A slice of heaven, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of city life. It’s akin to my great grandma’s house but somehow more inviting. No time was spared seating us, the atmosphere had an immediate calming effect as we were led to a den that overlooked a duck pond. I could go on about how amazing the food is from here but that wouldn’t do the service justice. Stacy made the experience, giving us expert advice, witty conversation, and an inviting attitude. She accommodated things we didn’t even know we needed. The manager then came to see that our request for eight orders of gizzards to go was legitimate and after our three course meal with five star service, we left feeling whole. Thank you Stroud’s Oak Ridge Manor and thank you Stacy for your passion and professionalism.

First time checking this place out. It didn’t disappoint . Loved the property. To the geese in the pond to the cats on the roof it had that relic touch. Food was delicious. I had the chicken fried chicken. It was tender and that gravy was amazing. The mash potatoes and green beans were both good. My daughter had the chicken dinner. She loved the chicken. The chicken noodle soup was also very good. The cinnamon bread was warm and tasty. Overall a great experience. Can’t wait to return.

Today, I called in an order for my 3 coworkers and myself. They open for lunch at 11am on Fridays, only. By the time I got there at 11:30 to pick it up, the parking lot was packed. I was able to pull off to the side by the entrance. After a 7 minute wait, they brought my food out and let me pay right there in my car. If you’re dining in for lunch on a Friday, be prepared for a wait.

Best known for their fried chicken, it’s certainly not the only reason to go. Their pork chops are equally flavorful and the cinnamon rolls are always worth the over eat. I say over eat cause the potatoes and green beans are served family style and all you can eat. Once you get your first taste of gravy, you’re pretty much guaranteed to over eat.
