We chose the 3-course option which includes a glass of champagne. The snacks and starter were much larger than expected, I was already a bit full before the main!
The buffet-style mains offer a few options — not a huge spread, but everything was great quality. The chef carves the meat for you right at the table, which is such a nice touch.
The sides like cabbage and seasonal greens were so delicious, not just simply steamed or roasted, but full of flavour. The service was also very attentive throughout.
Highly recommend this place for a Sunday Roast especially the buffet-style option so you can try different meats at once!
The restaurant is located on the first floor of the Pan Pacific Hotel, just a short walk from Liverpool Street. You enter via a wooden spiral staircase lit beautifully, leading to the Maitre’D. The staff were welcoming and took our jackets before showing us to our table. We had booked the five-course tasting menu through Time Out, which included a glass of sparkling wine.
The meal began with a complimentary prawn cracker served with a chilli dip — a pleasant start.
Chilled Native Scallop
Soy, chilli, red curry crisp (75 kcal)
The scallop dish was light and nicely marinated, though the scallops were sliced in half, so the portion felt quite small. The soy-based sauce was subtle and enjoyable.
Next came two dishes served together — an odd choice that didn’t work well:
Jimmy Butler’s Pork Skewer
Char siu glaze, plum ketchup (269 kcal)
The pork skewer was coated in a rich char siu sauce but was extremely fatty and heavy.
Cornish Crab Pappardelle
Laksa emulsion, green apple, caviar
The pasta was more Italian than Asian in flavour and rather bland. The caviar added a nice visual touch but little in terms of taste. Serving both dishes at once felt confused, and the lack of greens made the course feel unbalanced.
Hereford Beef Short Rib
Sweet soy & stout jus, hibiscus onion
This was the richest and heaviest dish of all — very fatty, with only a few bites eaten before it became overwhelming. We ordered a side of vegetables, which helped a little, but the overall meal was far too meat-heavy and lacked variety.
Ice Cream Sandwich
Vanilla, soy and sesame caramel centre (230 kcal)
A small but interesting dessert. The flavours worked well, though the sandwich was quite hard and difficult to eat straight from the freezer.
Service throughout the meal was attentive and professional.
Overall, while the presentation and service were good, the food was uncomfortably heavy and unbalanced — far too focused on rich, fatty meats with very little freshness or lightness to balance the flavours.
My family and I recently visited Straits Kitchen for their Sunday roast dinner, and we were absolutely impressed—not just by the food, but by the exceptional service that truly made our experience special.
From the moment we arrived, the attention to detail was evident. The hospitality started right at the hotel concierge and continued seamlessly into the restaurant. The entire team, from the manager to the waiters, went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful time.
As a parent with a baby in tow, I was touched by how considerate they were without me even having to ask. One standout moment was when the manager noticed I was feeding my baby as our food arrived and offered to keep my meal warm until I was ready. It’s thoughtful gestures like these that elevate a dining experience.
The food itself was delightful, with just the right balance of flavors. The roast was perfectly cooked, and each dish was beautifully prepared and presented. The only small note was that the gravy was a touch salty for my taste, but that might come down to personal preference.
As we don’t often travel to London for dining, this visit was truly worth the trip. It was a great way to kick off the festive season with my family, and we left feeling both full and cared for. Thank you to the entire Straits Kitchen team for making it such a memorable evening!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Would definitely recommend!
Things to improve: ice cream sandwich was a bit of a mess, the nearly frozen core was detached from biscuit base and chocolate layer on top, so when you try to dip into it, it will fall apart. Decor is standard Nordic modern but lacks character, it looked like a boring hotel restaurant.
Smart casual dress code applies as it’s a luxury hotel. In short, go for the ‘experience’ tasting menu but the whole menu is a breath of fresh air in London.

If you are a fan of Pan Asian cuisine, then this experience is for you. Situated inside the beautiful Pan Pacific hotel, The Straits kitchen offers the following Experience Menu:
.
Scottish Miso Salmon
Chicken Satay Skewer
Steamed Prawn and Chive Dumplings
Hereford Beef Short Rib or Peking style Duck
Gula Melaka Creme Brulee.
.
The short rib and duck definitely stole the show for me, but everything was amazing including the service and wine pairing. You get one glass of Prosecco and three glasses of wine including dessert wine. To finish the perfect evening we stopped at the hotel’s Ginger Lily Bar for some amazing cocktails.

Location: Shoreditch
Closest station: Liverpool Street Station
Price: £65pp for five plates, £35pp wine pairing
Cocktails around £15 at Ginger Lily bar
The ambiance is beautiful and calm, making it a perfectly relaxed spot for a special occasion. As for the food, we got the experience menu, and it was lovely—everything was well put together and delicious.
The restaurant was really accommodating and the service was great, which made it a wonderful and stress-free time, even with the whole family there. A big shout-out to Ludvick who gave us such warm service and patiently explained the whole tasting menu. He definitely made the meal feel special.
Highly recommend Straits for anyone looking for a beautiful spot for a family-friendly and great meal.
