We got 2 Margherita pizzas for my two kids and they liked it. I ate a slice and this pizza would not pass muster with El Presidente of Barstool. One bite everybody knows the rules. Super floppy under carriage. Too much dough, not enough cheese.
The Insalata di Calamari Fritti was good. It’s basically a salad with calamari.
The Parmigiana Di Melanzane (eggplant parm) was very very heavy on the tomato sauce (or gravy as Paulie says when in Italy…IYKYK) and it drowned out the eggplant. Pass.
The star of the show was the Prosciutto & Bufala Panino. Flavorful, lots of oil, hit the right balance of prosciutto vs mozzarella, bread was doughy and soft which really worked (I was expecting a harder bread), and the chips are out of this world. I’m a chip guy. I spend more on chips than some folks spend on real food. These chips were light, salted perfectly and crispy. I’m a harder kettle chip type of guy but these chips are the type of chip that could convert me.
The second best dish was the Carciofo Alla Romana (fried artichokes). I got this recco from the google reviews and it was amazing. This definitely delivered. But for $15, I was disappointed to only get 2 artichokes so I had to order a second plate. Value = 1 star. Taste and Deliciousness = 5 stars.
Dessert was dessert.
This is a solid 3 star ranking but the Prosciutto & Bufala Panino put this restaurant on its back and pulled it up to 4 stars. I would only come back for this sandwich and maybe to try the Chitarra di Pesce. Maybe.
Some of the dishes we liked:
1. Carciofo Alla Romana: Fried artichokes topped with Parmesan cheese and lemon zest, served with homemade smoked mayonnaise for dipping. Crispy and flavorful, this is a great appetizer.
2. Ave Cesare: Their take on Caesar salad is made with organic lettuce, bread crumbs, Parmesan, anchovy dressing, and cured egg yolk. It’s fresh, light, and healthy.
3. Lasagna Classica: Layered with ground beef and veal ragu, béchamel, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese, this is a flavorful, authentic Italian dish.
4. Corazziera Pizza: It is topped with provolone, mozzarella, sausage, mushrooms, caramelized onions, and red bell pepper coulis. It is thin-crusted, flavorful, and not heavy yet satisfying.
Two issues I had:
1) A cockroach was crawling around our booth. Our server just happened to check in on us when it was around so she caught it for us. Server apologized but no follow up from a manager on this sanitation issue demonstrates a service failure.
2) Overpriced for what you get. For example, the Stellina Caprese was $21 and you can see from my photo why I was disappointed.
Cannot recommend this place.
Visited on a Saturday and one thing to note – they do close the kitchen between 3-5 pm. The staff somewhat forgot about us at the end so we weren’t able to order the dessert in time of the kitchen closing but good to note for future visits.
We ordered the following:
– Cuoppo Mozzarella ($16 for 3 pieces that are small and very average in taste. Also ketchup side was odd to us lol. Would not get again).
– Gnocchi Alla Norma (Very delicious, the tomato flavor was well-balanced and overall the gnocchi was soft and delicious).
– Margherita (Average Italian pizza, would try their other signature flavors if visited again).
– Cacio e Pepe (Good peppery flavor and it was also creamier than expected. Pasta was cooked to al dente and overall good).
