Steinkeller – Literally translated, it means Stone Cellar. The name is often associated with the German drinking vessel known as a STEIN, but there is no actual connection. Our large beer mug is an authentic German import called a KRUG or a MASS, rather than a stein, which is a ceramic item.
Steinkeller was founded in the year 2000 with the purpose of bringing an authentic Bavarian beerhall to Southwestern Ohio. Located in historic Uptown Oxford, we are proud to serve Oxford, Miami University and the surrounding area. Stop in and try one of over 15 different authentic German biers along with a schnitzel and spätzel or our famous Reuben.
Restaurant & beer hall serving German fare & imported brews in an old-world setting.

Food was very good, salmon was cooked perfectly. Brussel sprouts split open grilled and honey glazed. Salads were loaded with many types of lettuce, real bacon crumbles and many toppings to choose from. New York strip steak cooked medium with a lite glaze of bourbon and honey. My baked potato, was very impressive largest baked potato I’ve ever been served topped with butter and sour cream. Rolls were puffy hot and fresh. We will be returning as soon as possible ,to try some of their German dishes loved the meal the service and atmosphere.

Moving reviews over from Yelp. Our daughter was Miami 2020 (Love & Honor!) and this review was originally published 9/2/2019:
Get the giant pretzel as an appetizer!
Get the Reuben for your meal.
Split them both. They’re a lot. They are also both excellent to the point where they seem out of place in a restaurant that’s almost fully supported by broke and regularly drunk college students.

Awesome German atmosphere, brews and great food. Our group of 5 had a great time celebrating a birthday. We will be back soon.

Loved everything! The beer, the pretzel appetizer, the Reuben were all fantastic! My wife’s meal was amazing also! Dining area was very quaint and our server, Tess, was great. She offered excellent suggestions. We’ll definitely go back to try more items on the menu. Highly recommend if you like German food and beer!

This place is fantastic! They have an extensive beer menu, with the best Belgian and German beers! The selection is amazing, and they have a description of each one in their booklike beer menu.
The food is great too. I highly suggest the sauerkraut balls, even if you don’t like sauerkraut! My wife hates it, but gets this item EVERY time we are there! We usually go on “steak night”, which also happens to have half price wine. You can always count on a great meal, and great beer, at Steinkeller!

The food is amazing, the Spaetzle is one of the tastiest I’ve tried, the Wurst platter, King Ludwig and the Biergaten Pretzel were so good!!
Portions are really generous!, and that sweet mustard that comes with the cheese curds is delicious.
Their German beer selection is great.

Who doesn’t love a Germanfest pub? I tried a grapefruit beer on draft and it was incredibly good! And the Bavarian pretzel and cheese were hot and fresh. The atmosphere was cozy and the service was great. They were very knowledgeable about the different beers available on draft and they were quick with the drinks back to the table. This is a great place to meet with old chums from college yesteryear!

I really wanted to like this place as I am an Oxford, OH enthusiast, but the prime rib was literally the worst piece of roasted meat I have ever eaten in my entire life. I ordered it medium rare, and the outside was brown and the inside was completely just raw. Put differently, it looked way worse than the existing images of the prime rib on previous reviews. Moreover, it was somehow incredibly tough—something I wasn’t even sure was possible with prime rib. The mashed potatoes and beer were good at least, but my goodness.

Stopped for brunch/lunch while visiting our son at Miami. My wife and him had gone there once before and he said he wanted to come back, so that’s a pretty good endorsement. Don’t let the somewhat steep and scary entrance to this basement establishment scare you off, it’s well worth a visit.
Everybody enjoyed their brunch (son, wife) or lunch (Grandma, me).
Saturday lunch/brunch menu is limited, but food still good and good selection of German beers.
I enjoyed my dark beer flight although the relative up charge for the 4 4-ounce pours seemed a little steep. If there’s something you’re interested in you might do better to ask for a taste and then order a half liter.
I thought the Reuben was good and the chickenzilla looked very good. The brunch options were reportedly tasty as well. Will definitely return.
Upon return, there Cubano was somewhat disappointing, but the half liter of Celebrator was not.

Been here for weekend brunch and schnitzel night and I was blown away both times. Brunch highlights were definitely the Apple French toast special as well as the GOETTA!! That stuff was so good… Schnitzel night features half priced schnitzel as well as a whole second menu of special schnitzels.. I was recommended the Rahm Schnitzel and absolutely loved it. German chocolate cake was a great way to end the meal.. $9 is A LOT for cake, but i loved it so much I can forgive them.
One of my favs in Oxford!
