For starters, they do offer a free basket of crusty bread with butter pats. For dinner, they have a large menu with lots of the standard familiar Italian offerings–think veal parm, steaks, gnocchi and other pastas, cheesy garlic bread–with a few more Americanish options like crab cakes and twice-baked potatoes. They do not skimp on the portions! Our dinners were served on massive hubcap-sized plates! It also seemed like a decent value compared to other fine dining-ish places in the area, as most of the entrees were under $30/plate. Many lovely touches.
I got the wine braised lamb and ravioli dish with a side of the roasted parm broccoli (yum). I really enjoyed the constituent parts of the dish separately (the lamb in particular was fall-off-the-bone and SO flavorful), I just wasn’t sure they worked well together–seemed like the ravioli needed something, maybe a different sauce. On the other hand, my partner got the veal francese and a twice-baked potato, which were excellent. And we finished up with a slice of the strawberry shortcake…absolutely divine. The dessert case is beautiful and seems to be a mix of more traditional European desserts (like strawberry napoleon) and American treats (lots of peanut butter options and cheesecakes, for example).
They are working on their liquor license so for now are BYOB. And for those who are picky (like my partner), they are a Coke establishment rather than Pepsi. 🙂
There are a few decor choices I think they could make to elevate the experience, as the menu and presentation of food give a fine dining/date night vibe, but the overall atmosphere is a little casual and sterile and it feels like an energy mismatch. The last couple restaurants in this space were fast-casual and they’ve clearly done a lot of work since to renovate the interior. Definitely some tablecloths would help, maybe some bistro lights. I liked the tea lights on the tables.
Anyway, I wish them the best and look forward to eating there again soon!
We couldn’t just leave without hitting the bakery counter, and let me tell you—the Strawberry Neapolitan, Cannoli, and Tiramisu are easily the best in the area. The service is so friendly and it has that warm, family atmosphere that makes you feel right at home, especially with Amy (the baker’s wife)—she is such a sweetheart!
Usually, my family and I have to drive all the way to NJ or NY for food and pastries this good, but not anymore. We are definitely coming back! Bendiciones!”
