It actually pains me to write this negative review. This place has historically had good food. And for the most part, they do… so long as you order from the menu. This review is strictly based on their Friday night prime rib special. In years past, it was excellent. Unfortunately over the past two years it has gone downhill. I told myself last year that I’d never order it again after getting two bad(tough and over cooked) prime ribs.. I said I was done. Well, silly me thought I’d give it one more try this year. It was so disappointing, to say the least. After being told there was rare/med rare available, we were told that “medium” was all they had available. Had we not already started on the salad bar, we would have left. But at that point it was too late. Well, the piece I got($30 btw) was at best, med well. It was tough and mostly flavorless. After ordering… I also notice that there were no locals ordering the prime rib. That’s very telling. So go there for the food off the menu, just avoid overpaying for a piece of shoe leather, they call prime rib.

We held our daughter’s wedding reception here recently. While the building isn’t the prettiest, and is under construction, (nothing some well placed drapery can’t hide) the staff went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed through the evening. The bathrooms have been recently redone and are very nice. Drink prices were super reasonable. The staff also kept water, lemonade, and coffee refilled all night. We were very happy with our experience.

Google Maps and Yelp would lead you to believe that the nearest places to get food in Steele are 7-8 miles away in Dawson. Not true! The desk clerk at the Cobblestone Inn pointed us to this bar/eatery, which happily serves the general public. (And, FWIW, there are also a Subway and Pizza Hut Express at the gas station across the street from the Cobblestone Inn, plus the Cobblestone Inn has frozen pizzas and the like.)
Food was good, if not exceptional, and a good value. Both my husband I opted for the small (5oz) burgers (-$1.25), the added a side (+$1.50 for fries, tots, or a salad). The tots were perfect: hot, crispy on the outside, not greasy. Burgers were very good, though they would have been improved by lettuce and a slice of tomato.

Clean bathrooms. The cook, however, was sleeping with his head down in the bar and seemed very irritated when we asked if the kitchen was open. We shared a bag of bbq chips and left. Cook needed!

I arrived there late maybe about 10:00 not many people in the bar but the people were nice inside, was not treated like I was a stranger, very friendly staff, I would definitely recommend heading to this place if you’re in town I did not try the food buy judging from the style of the establishment and the feel I got from the place the food has to taste really freaking good, I would definitely check them out
