Steak ‘n Shake, a classic American brand, was founded in 1934 in Normal, Illinois by Gus Belt who pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milkshakes.
For over 85 years, the company’s name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word steak stood for steakburger. The term shake stood for hand-dipped milkshakes. Gus was determined to serve his customers the finest burgers and shakes in the business.
Today, Steak ‘n Shake remains the better burger leader, serving premium 100% beef steakburgers, hand-dipped milkshakes, thin crispy fries, and more. Steakburgers are made without preservatives or artificial ingredients, topped with fresh produce, and always hand-crafted to order.
Chain known for steakburgers & milkshakes offering a dinerlike space with retro flair.

Not my first time visiting this restaurant but I’m not crazy about the kiosk only life for our elderly, also machine asks for a tip after literally nearly full self service
Food was amazing per usual
Everyone was nice
The barcode scan for drink needs to be discarded immediately
Besides that it was a good experience, clean, bathroom was just ok, all in all 4outta 5

This isn’t Steak N Shake we all grew up with and came to know and love, this is Freddie’s. You can’t watch the cook from the bar tops, there is only a hostess, you order through a kiosk, you don’t talk to anyone anymore. Burgers were way too heavily salted, no where near as thin and crispy, this is a disappointment.
It’s not like we even try anymore, gone is the sit down restaurant that this used to be.

We had our first date here 22 years ago to the day. A lot has changed, it’s not the S&S of yesteryear.
Food is as good if not better! Enjoyed our meal. Shakes are far less varied and interesting, it’s just a bunch of candy toppings now. No more malts or other mix Ins.
Atmosphere is lacking. No more paper hats or waiters. All self serve machines for just about everything. Things like checkered tile floors and booths persist but just reminds you of how cool this place once was.
We’ll be back again for another anniversary so long as you have a mint shake still for us to dip our fries in. Yeah it’s an odd combo but it’s what kicked off our decades long relationship <3

Literally the cleanest, kindest, and best steak n shake in the area. The others are trash compared to this location. Its always clean, quick, food is correct and fresh. I live 5 minutes from the High Ridge location and will drive to Arnold, the difference is just that great.

Everyone was laughing having a good time when we pulled up to the window. We ordered number seven with hot fries and they were laughing and looked out at us when we got our food. The fries were put back into the fryer and fried again to make them hot they were so hard you couldn’t even eat them. What a disappointment and the manager did it he ought to be wrote up.you can tell by the looks and taste that they’re refried horrible

Outstanding service! The manager, Crystal, had remarkable customer service skills. She was attentive with a wonderful personality. I noticed her helping customers while also training her staff on proper sanitation procedures. Even though we serve ourselves, she ensured that my visit was pleasant.

Literally didnt even get our food. We ordered at 1:57pm and left ar 2:20pm bc they still had not had our food… they said they were waiting on chicken strips 20 mins for chicken stripe is wild tbh but then someone who had just ordered sat down got their food which included chicken strips…. so apparently it wasn’t chicken stripe. Around idk 15 people got their food before us even though they ordered way after us… then when I said I wanted a refund the manager acted as if we ruined their day she was like “they dont want their food anymore” well no shit what food bc clearly no one made it and then the lady who told me it was chicken stripe said ” I told her we were waiting on chicken strips” mean while a guy and his 2 kids who ordered 2 orders of chicken strips had his food…mind you same size order 3 meals I ordered a double cheese burger with cheese fries, a fresco melt and 3 piece chicken strip and after 20mins they still hadn’t made anything but got pissy that we wanted a refund when people who ordered 20 mins after us were getting their food with shit we ordered! Make it make sense

My kids wanted to go to Steak ‘n Shake to try their chili fries, had their Eggnog shake and was expecting it to taste more like eggnog but, it was not what I was expecting. Was okay but didn’t have the flavor that normal eggnog has.

Steak n shake has lost its appeal for me. First it was they stopped making malts, then they stopped having the pepper bottles that made their chili so much better. They got rid of waiters and waitresses. No they use kiosk and if you order a meal combo with fires and a drink and then you think your adding a chili it automatically substitutes the chili for the fries. Then you need to scan for your drink and when you get your refill if you hesitate filling it it stops and you can’t fill it completely. Not a big deal but the beef tallow fries are not as good as whatever they were frying them in before. A world of difference from what they used to be.

Best Steak n Shake I’ve been to in years. I’ve been to many Steak n Shakes all over the Midwest, from Indiana to West Michigan to Southeast Michigan, and this one is far-and-away the best. It’s a night-and-day difference. Steak n Shake in general is going downhill, but not this location. The place was clean, the staff was friendly, the food was fresh, and most importantly: it was delicious. Would recommend!
