Extremely Disappointed – Avoid This Location
As a truck driver, I depend on quick, reliable service—especially at locations next to truck stops, like this Steak ’n Shake in Litchfield, IL. I’ve stopped here three times, and every time has been a disappointment.
Today, I placed a mobile to-go order ahead of time, planning to pick it up quickly and stay on schedule. Instead, I had to wait 28 minutes, even though my order was placed with plenty of time to be ready. When I finally got it, they had forgotten the condiments and straws for my drinks.
To make matters worse, the lobby was closed (with no clear signage), and apparently I was supposed to wait in the drive-thru lane—which I wasn’t told. Other customers in line were also frustrated and complaining about the same delays and confusion.
On top of all this, I’m still waiting on a refund from the first time I ordered online here. That time, the location was closed, even though it showed as open online—and I was charged anyway.
This is by far the worst Steak ’n Shake I’ve visited in my years on the road. Disorganized, poor communication, and no accountability. Do not stop here until serious changes are made.

Fantastic place! Love the people and the food. We came in at the last minute and they didn’t turn us away (under 30 min till close). Many of us have worked in a kitchen and know those kinda rules. Fair pricing, ample parking, very clean inside. The food was delicious and it was a very pleasant experience.

Staff not welcoming at all. They force you to use self checkout, fell terrible for elderly individuals. Ordered a triple cheeseburger and sadly enough McDonald’s burgers are now larger than this place. Going down hill quickly.

Terrible staff. It was 5 o’clock prime time for dinner. Asked for a chili Mac and her reply was “we don’t have any noodles made” no apologies, no “maybe we’ll have some in a few minutes” —nothing. The vibe here is definitely off putting and they’re not happy that you picked to come there.

Love the new Steak N Shakes design. The experience at this location was outstanding compared to the locations where I live. Clean, fast, and hot food. I enjoy walking up to the counter to order my food more than the old traditional service.

I hate the self-serve machines for ordering food. I would have given 4 stars if not for that. Staff were friendly and the food was good quality. The establishment was clean as well.

I did not eat here as when I walked in I stood there at the counter for 10 minutes before someone talked to me and then they told me you have to order through the kiosk. If you can’t have a real person serve me I don’t want to eat here. I walked out. I went across the street to the Huddle House where I got great service and paid about the same.

The last 2 Steak n Shake’s i have been to Alton IL and Wood River IL were 2 stars. I have to order at a kiosk the service was slow and eating area was not clear. Litchfield has it GOING ON. STOP BYE GREAT PLACE! You order at the front counter they bring you the food. OMG, THE OLD SNS IS BACK! On 3/17, we came back and again 5 stars. Serive great food, hot and fresh, and tables were clean. Way to go, Litchfield

Wish I could put 0 stars they are very unprofessional!!! I am a truck driver and of course they had there dining area closed they made me walk in the drive thru and order my food on a cold day and wasted my whole break I won’t be back here ever again .

Typical steak & shake. Plenty of free close parking, handicap accessible. Food was well cooked and assembled, hot and good. The store was clean and well organized. Food was up, took it to the table and waited and waited and waited at the counter for my banana shake, all the while my fries got cold and greasy by the time I finally got my shake and sat down. Then the lady behind the counter started yelling for someone, a fellow employee I suspect but they were nowhere around and it took her an amazingly long time to stop yelling for him. So unprofessional, distracting and completely unnecessary. The catsup packets don’t work either, glad I had my pocket knife handy or I would have never gotten any.
