I never had aSteak ‘n Shake cheese burger before. I’ve heard about, seen many commercials. But I never tried until last week.
Steak n Shake restaurant was my choice pit stop to have a quick meal before, I board the O’Hare airport.
When I stepped in a restaurant it gave me this old classic 1960s establishment look. The staff was friendly, my food was prepared right before my eyes. After one bite of that cheeseburger I was hooked, I told one of the workers ” McDonald’s is dead to me “. Lol
Shake ‘n Shake is now my favorite burger spot. Thanks to the staff workers foe the warm love and hospitality.

Open till midnight and packed on a Friday. Especially after an event at the Allstate arena. Service was great, but understanbly slower due to so many customers. Food was pretty good, the bacon is a little thin but the patty was really good. The fries are great. I forgot how much they give you in a milkshake, I couldn’t finish mine. They also have ordering kiosks so you don’t have to order in person.

Im giving this location a 3 star review because the time i went i found hair in my burger,yes a piece of hair as i was halfway through my burger i found a piece of hair in the patty. As i looked at the kitchen area nobody in there was wearing a hairnet which is gross im definitely not coming back ever to any steak n shake!! Very unpleasant to find hair in food

Man this franchise has seen better days. It’s one of the only franchises that still keeps up the diner fascade, but you can tell from the rusted furniture, broke tiles, etc. that they haven’t done much remodeling. Atleast this one’s floors aren’t covered in filth and it doesn’t have cobwebs on the tables. They pretty much force everyone to use the kiosks to order since there’s no menu on the wall nor anyone really working a register. I ordered a butter steakburger with a small fry which came out to be a little over $5 with tax. The food itself was ready in a few minutes. The shoestring fries are instantly recognizable. Upon opening the burger I immediately had flashbacks of my past experience at a Steak and Shake years ago where I coincidentally ordered the same thing. The butter steakburger on the menu has a different bun, but they serve it on a regular bun. With my first bite I received a mouthful of butter which confirmed it was indeed a butter steakburger. The onions for whatever reason are ridiculously strong. A few bites in and you realize you’re gonna need breath mints. It’s an above average burger, but the seemingly stale bread was off putting.
I wouldn’t mind trying things out again, but you can definitely tell they stopped caring about the dine-in experience a long time. It’s nothing like the hustle and bustle in the commercials of yesteryear. Everything seemed cold, robotic and it was pretty much a ghost town when I was there. However, you do get good deals for solid food.

I went to steak ‘n Shake today, March 2 and I got a milkshake and I usually avoid going there because there’s just one lady she’s a white lady older and she always has really long nails and that’s very unsafe and on food safe for working in a restaurant and that’s a health hazard I drove up to drive-through and I seen that this woman who was taking my order already knew who it was. I see her smoking a cigarette outside as she’s taking my order from outside. She then runs inside and the lady that made my shake. She had it there and then the lady that was outside smoking, grabbed it with her hands, and I do not believe that she washed her hands because my drink smell like cigarettes I have asthma. I immediately started coughing. That’s super disgusting. She might as well just smoke inside the building. How are you? Smoking a cigarette and taking my order outside through your headphones and you didn’t even wash your hands Because the bathroom is outside in the eating area and I had to watch her when she came in.

I’ve never been to a Steak N Shake that was not clean. I will also say they are generous when asking for extra condiments where they don’t nickle and dime you.

Place order, waited, heard and watched orders that was placed after mine , being fulfilled. When questioned about my order, the associate walk away then someone else return with aggression. I inform to the next personal that came to me and ask me what’s the problem? I REPLIED THAT I was just inquiring about my order, due too me hearing higher numbers being fulfilled. The gentleman then turned and walk from me to ask another employee about my order, their conversation did not take place directly in front of me but I heard the communication. The reply was they were waiting on my fries. The problem is the waited on my order for fries that was old and less then room temp. No heat at all. I guess that’s what you get here if you question service. I didn’t get to speak to the manager and if I did I wasn’t aware because they did not acknowledge themselves and I didn’t see any professionalism in how this was handled. I see the reflection of behavioral issues for the Saturday crew. Maybe not everyone but the people skills are weak. That’s why there is a kiosk and it’s needed, because theres No professionalism Today! Whatever you do tipping doesn’t matter! Some of the staff is vindictive and I pray you all will receive what you deserve. Do well because you will need that measure of return!

Steak and Shake NEVER disappoints. If you haven’t tried it, you’re missing out. I also recommend the canned chili! I come from out of town where we have don’t have this restaurant. So I needed to stock up.
