Steak ‘n Shake, a classic American brand, was founded in 1934 in Normal, Illinois by Gus Belt who pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milkshakes.
For over 85 years, the company’s name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word steak stood for steakburger. The term shake stood for hand-dipped milkshakes. Gus was determined to serve his customers the finest burgers and shakes in the business.
Today, Steak ‘n Shake remains the better burger leader, serving premium 100% beef steakburgers, hand-dipped milkshakes, thin crispy fries, and more. Steakburgers are made without preservatives or artificial ingredients, topped with fresh produce, and always hand-crafted to order.
Chain known for steakburgers & milkshakes offering a dinerlike space with retro flair.

This was me and my brother’s 1st time dining there. The foods and beverages were off-the-chain! My only criticism is that ordering from the kiosk digitally defeats the purpose of having the staff help a customer; having both won’t be that bad. But anyway, I’ll probably dine here again sometime in the future. Keep up the great service!

Its changed a lot since covid, before it used to be a restaurant, but now it’s where are you order at a kiosk and then picking up the food at a counter when your number is called. In many ways I like this better because it’s relaxed, the prices are really good, it is kid friendly, unfortunately they don’t have anything really healthy, it’s mostly burgers and fries although they have chicken strips and Chili, they also have a grilled cheese sandwich for those who don’t eat meat. But the best thing is they have really good shakes and the shakes are half off during the week in between 2 and 4:00 p.m. if you are looking for a nice place to just sit and relax this is a good place to go. You can see my earlier review showing what it used to look like, I just went today to the same location and got the same thing, for an extra chicken strip it used to be a $1.80 but now there are a lot smaller hand thinner in charge $2.20 for just one strap, I had four strips and the biggest one was about 4 inches tall and 2 inches wide, and the other three are only about 3 inches and 2 inches and only about an inch and a half wide, and two of them were overcooked and had basically no chicken in it they were all breading, it was already pricey to begin with put worth it, now it’s very questionable as to whether I’m going to return if this is what is expected on my return give it one more try to make sure that this isn’t what is the usual from now on. Play should have taken more pictures to show the extent but I did get the one picture of it, as you can see in the picture this is supposed to be the same basket and you can see the difference with the fry amount unfortunately the picture doesn’t really show the extent of how much breading is in it or how short it is, but at least it does show some comparison to before.

All Food is ordered on touch screens which is nice. Food was not super accurate, got bbq sauce on chilli mac. Tables were clean and got order with in 10 min of ordering. Chicken tenders were definitely a rip off, 3 skinny strips for $6, insane. Burger was okay, extremely messy with the condiments on meals.

My family and I stopped at Steak’N’Shake in Auburn Hills, MI after a fun outing at Top Golf. The restaurant didn’t close for another twenty minutes and we rushed in to get milkshakes. As soon as we entered the door, we waited for an employee to come to the counter to take our order; however, the employee rudely told us that the lobby was closed and if we wanted to order we had to use the drive thru… I don’t understand how they couldn’t serve us in the lobby yet could serve us at the drive thru especially when we were right there in front of him… I understand if the lobby was locked as most restaurants will do, nonetheless the doors were not locked and the lights were not off. I am very displeased with this encounter and left to go to the neighboring McDonalds instead. I didn’t realize this was the mission and value of Steak’N’Shake…

I know people get down on this place sometimes but my family went yesterday and we wanted to call out how great it was. The food is always good when we go, and yesterday was no different. Delish! The staff were fast and helpful. The restaurant was clean and stocked. Don’t be fooled by what you read all the time. Lots of people were there dining in with us or getting take out.

It was simply ok.. went to the drive through because I had a shake craving. Banana and peanut butter shake is what I ordered along with a BBQ Western Burger or whatever its called. The wife got a Frisco melt meal. We ordered and it took the guy with broken English a little extra time to take it as he seemed to maybe not be familiar with the screen he was looking at. No big deal as maybe he is new so I was patient while he completed what we were ordering. He was super polite and dotted all the I’s and crossed all the T’s making sure everything was correct. No we waited an extended period of time to pay and get out food through the drive through window which was weird because we were literally the only people there except for the care that pulled up behind us after the fact so no they were not busy. No worries as I am not in a hurry anyway. Just an observation. Fast forward we get our food and drinks and pull into a parking spot to smash our food really fast. I take a drink of my much anticipated shake and it tastes like a spoonful of peanut butter. No banana taste or anything. Just straight peanut butter. So slightly disappointed I take out the burger and it was just MEH. It was slightly dry and needed more sauce but it was not terrible. My wife loved here Frisco melt and said the fries were on point so as long as she is happy I am happy. But yeah as for food. It could have been better but at the same time its fast food through a drive through. I was way more disappointed about the shake than anything as that is what I was actually craving amd being the type of restaurant it is I expected more with that. Food was meh. Service was slow but acceptable and the employee was efficient and did the best he could im sure. I might try it again if im in the area but would get something different

Always busy. The staff will help if they have a second but those are rare. Definitely not going to get any smiles with your help. Food quality is fresh and good but get it to go. Inside is a mad house and could use some remodels or a cleaning from Jesus himself.

The original smash burgers with the skinny fries my son loves. Classic American diner feel. 90 years and still cranking.
I wasn’t aware Steak n Shake was even around these northern parts. Loved them in Florida, though. The kiosk ordering is new to me, as is not being open 24 hours. Adapt or die, I guess. The place is running smoothly with two employees so it must be working.
Open 10 a – 10p Mon-Sat, 10a – 8p Sun. The dining room closes 1 hr before that so, carry-out & drive-thru only that last hour.
I do miss perusing the physical menus to get an idea of what I might want today. At peak times just scrolling around could cause a bit of backup. I suspect the app would fill that role were I wanting to download yet another app. I’m not.
So, I step up to one of the 4 kiosks to place my order. It’s grouped pretty intelligently and the screens are big and bright touchscreens. Had no issues after deciding on which smart-ass name to use today (yeah, I’m one of those but I’m not 11 so I keep it polite).
While awaiting my food, I grabbed my drink, napkins & ketchup and picked a booth to occupy. A few minutes and they called my name. Exactly as ordered, hot and tasty, too.
Music, which I don’t recall playing in other SnS locations, was at an acceptable volume but the religious nature of some of it didn’t feel right. Modern religious but still, it’s a restaurant, not a church. And those ceiling tiles do need replacing, looks bad. Fix that stuff & five stars, y’all.
My order was under $7 with tax included. That’s cheaper, faster and better tasting than any fast-food place and more comfortable to boot. That’s why I like them & why I’ll be back repeatedly.

Used to eat here all the time and always thought it was really good. Tried coming back after not having it for years and will never come back. I order in the drive thru where there was literally nobody in line. I talk to the lady at the speaker just to be welcomed with a horrible attitude for no reason. I drove up to the window to pay and get my food and literally waited for almost 10 min without a single person come to the window for me to at least pay for the food. I drove off and will never be back. Great customer service guys!

I love getting their milkshakes! I have not been disappointed with a single flavor combination so far.
On this visit, I grabbed their limited-edition winter flavors, Peppermint Chocolate Chip and Egg Nog, and I LOVED both!
The service can be a little slow sometimes, but those shakes are delicious. It’s a plus one when you get them for free through their rewards program, too
