The food was as expected , it was good. The service was fairly quick , but very cold. The atmosphere was abhorrent. The sidwalk was covered in packed snow. Employees, goofing around with friends that must have been possible customers. Messing Around in the dining area. The men’s bathroom was so disgusting. It looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for days and had evidence of it. There were no towels available to dry my hands. Which makes me wonder how the employees wash their hands. If you love steak and shake and you decide to go here. I highly recommend you save yourself the trouble and go through the drive through.

Holy Cow what happened to Steak N Shake? We dined (if you could call it that) at one of the few remaining ones. First off no waitresses to seat you or take your order. We had to use a kiosk. How quaint. Then we noticed the grease build up all over the counter and the seating area. It had been a long time since I’d had one of their steak burgers and their fries. Gone are the bottles of hot pepper sauce. Their catchup dispenser was empty. I also forgot to mention the receipt from the kiosk was completely blank. So we had to hope the order actually went to kitchen.
The food was just okay. Not like the old days when you enjoyed what you got. We were more concerned about getting sick from the food.
Before you decided to go for your Steakburgers and delicious shakes, make sure you have all your shots or have Pepto in the medicine cabinet.

Don’t get me wrong I Steak ‘n Shake but this place is running down to the ground fast. Last night I went there and ordered the usual #6 combo with large coke. Well needless to say the fries were stale and my drink had a chemical taste like bleach. Smh! Such a shame because I had some real great memories growing up at this restaurant.

I am shocked this restaurant is even open. The dining room was very dirty, with greasy fingerprints, food, ketchup, even dust everywhere. The women’s bathroom was HORRIBLE.
The food was fine. No waitresses, as all food is ordered at kiosk. Which is fine, of course, but no one cleans? Imagine how dirty the kitchen is! Will never eat here again, and IMO should be shut down.
I completed online survey to complain, but apparently the same issues have been going on for years with no resolution.
Also, WHY IS THERE A $2 TIP ADDED TO MY RECEIPT?!?

If you’re not going to operate during posted hours they should be changed! Seems like this location doesn’t serve anyone if you come after 9 on ANY night. All I wanted was a pick me up shake. Ended up making my own at home, probably tasted better and less chance of getting sick considering how dirty this place usually is

The bathrooms were dirty and had no toilet paper, no employees in sight.
Ended up going through drive through and the girl at the window had a dirty look on her face the entire time. The food was cold, of course, and tasted weird. And our coke tasted like there was chemicals sprayed into the cup! Wasn’t even drinkable, the aftertaste was bleach! Absolutely ridiculous don’t even waste time going here. It’s not what it used to be.

The woman working the drive through on 12/26 around 4pm was very rude. I ordered an eggnog shake, said it twice, and she gave me a orange cream shake. When I said I ordered an eggnog shake she made it seem like it was my fault. I get home the food was barely warm, didn’t give us sauce for the tenders, and gave us a diet coke instead of regular. She was condescending and not friendly. She never greeted me or said have a good day. She was very rude and unprofessional. I hope this place can hire someone who’s more people friendly since they deal with people for their job.

I originally tried to go through the drive thru was sitting there almost 5 minutes and no one took my order. My daughter and I really wanted a shake so I went in. Shakes weren’t thick at all, no whipped cream or cherry. I had to ask for it to get told there wasn’t any. Abby whom I assume is the manager had a very nasty attitude. My fries were put in the bag and just sitting there I had to ask for them. Got to the car my cheese for fries cold like it just came out of the refrigerator. Only reason I didn’t go back in is because felt like would’ve been a waste of my time! I understand they were short staffed but to have bad customer service as well isn’t right. Also the place is very dirty. Do better!!

I just moved out to Valpo and Steak n Shake was always my favorite back in the Hobart area. I had high expectations but they definitely let me down. This is the second time I had a horrible experience, so I definitely won’t be going back. It’s just a bunch of teenagers running the place, it seems. I was laughed at when trying to order my food through the drive through… I kindly asked if they could cut my sandwich & it wasn’t cut… there was no ice in my pop… the onion rings were soggy… they forgot my frisco sauce & my frisco melt wasn’t even cooked all the way disgusting & won’t be going back!
