Steak ‘n Shake, a classic American brand, was founded in 1934 in Normal, Illinois by Gus Belt who pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milkshakes.
For over 85 years, the company’s name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word steak stood for steakburger. The term shake stood for hand-dipped milkshakes. Gus was determined to serve his customers the finest burgers and shakes in the business.
Today, Steak ‘n Shake remains the better burger leader, serving premium 100% beef steakburgers, hand-dipped milkshakes, thin crispy fries, and more. Steakburgers are made without preservatives or artificial ingredients, topped with fresh produce, and always hand-crafted to order.
Chain known for steakburgers & milkshakes offering a dinerlike space with retro flair.

This was my first visit to Steak ‘n Shake in several years and it was absolutely amazing. A fresh, hot burger with chili and French fries cooked in tallow for the same price as a McBurger from larger chains. Efficient and courteous service and amazing quality, so well worth the stop.

The food was great, and 4 meal deals are good. I mobile ordered and the food was there ready when I showed up 5 mins later. Everything was a great portion. Only problem I experienced was a dirty bathroom, and this was around 9pm, I would expect them to be cleaned by that time, toilet paper everywhere and toilet seat was a mess. Overall a 4.7

Haven’t been to steak ‘n shake in a while but was definitely surprised by everything being self-service. It was straightforward to use, though I would say it doesn’t fit the ’50s diner aesthetic as much when you have to order your food from a touch screen kiosk.
The food was good though, I did like the beef tallow they cook the fries in and such. Restaurant was fairly clean too. Overall good experience though when the kiosk asked for a tip it did feel kind of redundant when you are the one putting in your order, picking up your order, and throwing away your trash and putting your dishes up.

Another great dine in experience. 2 weeks in a row, 10pm, and Demetrius just makes you smile. From “Welcome to Steak n Shake” to just there if you need anything. Just makes going there fun! And the food has been excellent.

The staff at this Steak ‘n Shake are wonderful! We had a belated Christmas get together (place requested by my granddaughters). We had a large group and large order. It took awhile, but it was noon so you would expect it. They brought out free fries for the girls while we waited. Everyone was so nice and our food was hot and fresh!

I ordered carry out. I waited 20 minutes inside the store after the time they said it would be ready. Then they got both milkshakes wrong and the wrong burger. I spoke with the manager and she said she could not help me and I would need to speak to the owner. I called him and he said he would give me a full refund so he didn’t have to deal with me.
A month later, I noticed I had not received my refund and gave the owner another call. He stated he was just trying to get rid of me and would not be issuing my refund he promised. Worse food experience of my life. Will never give this poor excuse of a man another chance. I would recommend going to any other Steak ‘n Shake if possible.

i ordered hot food because IM hungry, little do i know they dont feel like cooking, which is what theyll say if you call and ask why your fries are cold, hard, and disappointing. they use the fries from the night before to finish orders. “fresh” burger? maybe, but they’ll admit to low levels of service and quality, never again!!

Ahhhhh… the modern world. Where you can experience the truly modern experience of ordering online, receiving a time to pick up your food, and then wait am extra fifteen minutes past then while they focus on the drive through. Be rudely told to come inside and experience sights such as a food prep line that would make anyone with half an hour of lean training weep for humanity. Do yourself a favor. Order in the drive through or not at all.

I love Steak and Shake and I’m glad they didn’t go bankrupt like I thought they were going to a couple years ago. Like McDonald’s, now you use a tablet to place your order when you walk in. There are no more waitresses. They have simplified the menu, hamburgers and chili spaghetti. I don’t eat ever eat it, but they still have the Sundaes in a tall glass, everything else is plastic and paper which is fine if they want to compete with McDonalds and survive which they are doing. The food is still delicious and the shoestring fries really do taste different and better cooked in beef tallow instead of hydrogenated soybean oil like McDonalds and Wendy’s.
