Steak ‘n Shake, a classic American brand, was founded in 1934 in Normal, Illinois by Gus Belt who pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milkshakes. For over 85 years, the company’s name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word steak stood for steakburger. The term shake stood for hand-dipped milkshakes. Gus was determined to serve his customers the finest burgers and shakes in the business. Today, Steak ‘n Shake remains the better burger leader, serving premium 100% beef steakburgers, hand-dipped milkshakes, thin crispy fries, and more. Steakburgers are made without preservatives or artificial ingredients, topped with fresh produce, and always hand-crafted to order.

I contacted support through the app and tried calling the restaurant no answer and support never got back to me. Later I called again and asked for a manager. He answered and said he was the manager. I explained everything and instead of fixing the issue, he started asking random questions that weren’t going anywhere. I finally asked if he just wanted my order number.
While I was giving it to him, I was two numbers from the end when he said “slow down.” I did, and somehow that was still a problem. At that point it felt like he was just looking for a reason not to help. He hung up on me.
When I called back, he answered and said, “You want to try again?” I told him I don’t work for him and he wasn’t going to talk to me like that. I explained that all of this could’ve been avoided with a refund and he was making it worse for no reason. He hung up again.
After that, a female employee answered. I asked for the manager’s name because I planned to contact store ownership. She refused to give it to me and said she “couldn’t hear me,” which wasn’t true. I then called for about 45 minutes. When they did answer, they either hung up immediately or pressed buttons to disconnect the call.
This was a new level of unprofessional. A manager hanging up, refusing to help, and then avoiding calls instead of handling a simple refund is unacceptable. I still want my money and will be getting back. You can’t steal from people.
Food taste wise. it taste pretty good and about what I remembered from back in the day. Order was pretty quick.
Food menu wise. it has been cut back, and made more simplified. Gone are some of the more speciality burgers I’ve enjoyed in the past, and even with the milkshake options have been narrowed down. I wasn’t a fan of the milkshake i did receive.
Service wise, we have now lost the dine in experience as was nice back in the day. It makes this place just more boring, and just the feeling of a fast food joint, which makes it loose some of it’s luster from the past. Gone is the interaction with people, and now just a screen to order and wait for your number to be called.
The employee that did call our number was kind. I unfortunately forgot to get her name to give her proper credit.
Overall, the food was fine, but the experience is no longer there. My friends, and I will not be dining out to Steak ‘n Shakes anymore due to loosing that people experience.
This location has a new process of dispensing soda from their drink fountain by scanning a QR code printed on a separate paper if you ordered a soda with your meal.
In my opinion, this is very inconvenient because you have to re-scan the QR code each time you refill your soda. Never had this experience before, if the QR code is not scanned on a device which is separate from the fountain the soda spouts dispense carbonated water.
