Bread service was great. The butter was perfectly melty and the bread itself was very good. I ordered the Lavender 75 made with gin, a refreshing and light cocktail. I also had a White Russian, which was nice and strong with a good creamy balance.
The steak was incredible. It comes with two sides and two sauces, and there was also a garlic bonus served on the plate. Definitely a great option for two people, maybe even three. The dessert menu looked tempting, but we were too full to try anything this time.
Would absolutely come back.
Located on 9th Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen, my partner and I were looking forward to dining at Steak Frites Bistro before our show. A reservation was easily made via Resy.
Upon arrival as first-timers, we were transported to a cozy bistro in Paris. Greeted by the host, Pierre, a table was ready for us by the window inside their beautifully designed main dining room with a warm, inviting atmosphere that made us feel right at home with an authentic French vibe. They have an additional dining room called the Peacock Room that’s charming, quaint, and quieter for private events.
The menu changes seasonally and comprises all the authentic French bistro classics. We decided on the Lunch Pre-Fixe. As an appetizer, we decided on the Salade Verte and Soupe à l’Oignon Gratinée. For our main, we opted for the Steak Frites. For dessert, we got the Crème Brûlée and Chocolat Ganache Tarte.
All were well prepared; flavors were incredible, tasty & simple in their execution. The service was exceptional: incredibly attentive, friendly, and professional throughout the entire meal. Our server was Agnes.
This spot buzzes with theatergoers, locals, and food lovers drawn to the area’s diverse dining scene, which we can recommend.
Arrived 10 mins before our booking and we got seated but it took about 10 mins before we can actually place an order. The starter took about 30 mins after we ordered it to arrive, before followed by our drinks. We finished the food within 10 mins and from that it took another 45 mins to get the entree, the dessert came around 15 mins after that. Overall for a lunch that we were expecting to probably finish around 1hr to 1hr30mins ended up making us finish around 2hrs-2hr30 mins. Food was not quick to deliver but the check certainly was, since 2mins, mid bite of the dessert we got the bill.
I would say that it was similar for everyone else around us, but people that came in 5-10 mins after us were able to get their orders placed before us and also got their food and was able to finish before us.
The food was alright but definitely could have gotten food elsewhere if we knew this was going to be how long the wait between food would have been.
Atmosphere was not too bad, they had a mix of Christmas music playing and you can still be able to make good conversation with your group.
Would say that based on observing as I waited for my food, that the wait time for a table was not extreme. As for a Saturday it had a good group of people dining but not extreme enough that people had to be lined up waiting. Took them about 2-5mins before they seated a group that came as a walk-in. Would still probably advise to have a reservation at least for the weekend.
The onion soup gratinee was good, went well with the bread that they brought. The Steak Frites tasted great, well seasoned and came hot. My friend and I tried each other’s desserts and they were both excellent, the crème brûlée was very nice and creamy and was my favorite compared to the Chocolat Ganache Tarte, since the Tarte had a very rich dark chocolate, and was slightly crunchy. Additionally the roaring 20’s marg was good and very flavorful, while the lemonade my friend ordered was more on the very sweet side.
Overall not my best experience regarding wait time of food, but it was not a bad location or atmosphere.
Great attention to detail and a nice conversationalist. Treat yourself to a glass of red wine to accompany your steak. Yum!
Fantastic food, spectacular staff / service, and an amazing ambiance. Talked to the restaurant host on the way out the door about how to improve foot traffic and diner throughput during peak hours— This place gets all the credit it deserves and is definitely worth visiting if you’re in the area. Check it out!
The steaks are cooking amazingly, but they were slightly larger for us, they had no problem with us sharing. Also the desserts are heavenly!
Definitely give a cocktail a try! We loved ours. The Lucious Lichi was so good!
