After reading several strong reviews, our group chose Staxx BBQ for our final meal in Kentucky on this trip. Expectations were set fairly high, especially with praise for both the BBQ and the fries.
We visited Sunday at 12:00 for lunch.
Unfortunately, all four of us walked away a bit disappointed.
The biggest issue was temperature. The meat was not hot — it felt closer to body temperature (around 98–100°) rather than fresh off a pit or warmer. Not cold, but definitely not hot. That alone takes some of the excitement out of barbecue.
The smoked wings had beautiful color and looked promising, but they were very dry. Sauce helped, but ideally good wings shouldn’t require rescue. The brisket was fair — decent texture but needed sauce to bring it to life. The pulled pork was the best of the meats and stood on its own better than the others, though still benefited from sauce.
Sides were average. The baked beans had some meat mixed in but lacked that deeper smoky BBQ character. The mac and cheese tasted similar to a blue-box style with garlic and onion powder added — serviceable, but not memorable. The fries, which were highly praised in other reviews, unfortunately missed the mark for us.
Cornbread leaned toward the sweet style, which some may prefer.
On a positive note, the staff was courteous and welcoming, and the roadside sign definitely grabs attention.
Comparing this experience to regional chains like Sonny’s or Shane’s, Staxx fell a point or two behind in overall execution. It works if you’re nearby and craving BBQ, but based on this visit, we wouldn’t consider it a destination stop.
All four of us rated it 5/10 for this visit.

I ordered brisket which is dry as heck. An it comes with Texas toast. But it’s a piece of bread with butter on one side. Service was great and people are great. Food sucks. My wife got ribs and we throwed them away. Spent 50 bucks in food and really disappointed.

Great BBQ! Got the pulled pork sammich w/ mac ‘n cheese. Forgot to take a pic. Nice sized sammich and loved the different sauce options. The staff was incredibly friendly. Good price for the food also. Zero complaints.

I was pleasantly surprised by Staxx. At first it looked a little small and maybe a little older but the food (and service) was awesome! The meat was not only delicious but the portions were incredibly generous!! I would absolutely recommend and will definitely return again!

Let’s start of by saying the people and the atmosphere are both great. I ordered the brisket and onion rings and the run n new were everything my I had heard they would be, some of the best I’ve had
However, I lived in Texas for a long time and I judge a BBQ joint by their brisket and the brisket I got today was leaving in flavor. It was tinder, but dry and only had a VERY slight smoke taste to it. It didn’t taste like there was any pepper or salt used on it when they cooked it.
I’ll be back, going that today was just a one off day.

So we were just passing through Frankfurt and thought we would eat somewhere local, this was the first thing we saw that wasn’t a chain,so barbecue always sounds good. I’m from Texas so I have a pretty good standard about barbecue, this is a no-frills place kind of felt like you were going back in time to somewhere that would’ve been built in the 80s and really hasn’t updated it since then… And actually that’s what I like about it, they put their money into their food instead of it to some sort of modern decor, I got the ribs and chicken wings, they were both smoked old-school style… Tasted fantastic and the sweet potato fries were top-notch, hot and crsip to perfection, the ribs meat literally fell off the bone. The prices were also like kind of back in time. They haven’t nearly the prices of BbQ TN Restaurant especially barbecue which has really gone through the roof… Whereas for the sandwich meals it was pretty much the same price as you’re gonna pay for a combo at McDonald’s… this is the kind of place that if I were local, I would eat there all the time. Friendly staff, just good folk.

Great little barbecue restaurant. The pulled pork was a little dry but the brisket was delicious. The macaroni and cheese and sweet potatoes are a must try.

Rib meat is super thin on the bone—kinda dry and lacks flavor. The cornbread is crumbly and looks dry but it is good. The bbq sauce is decent. The Mac-n-cheese needs less of the pepper but it’s a bit boring. Maybe their know for another type of meat for bbq, but the ribs aren’t it.
