The fish fry was very good. We had both perch and cod, and both were delicious. The salads and soup were also very good.
We were seated almost immediately, and the service was excellent.

Fantastic food and service.
The beer is cold. Very important stuff on a hot day. Good beer selection.
Really enjoyed the experience.
It’s like an old time supper club, right here in West Allis

One of the best supper clubs my wife and I have ever been to. Not only is the food amazing, that ownership/staff treat you like family (the ones you want to be around). The Old Fashioned’s are on point! Fun loving, down to earth people are who greet you when you walk into State Fair Inn! Ask the HOT HOT sauce.

Not impressed. Called and told we could sit at the bar at 5:00. Start serving food at 5:15. We got there at 4:55pm and the door was not unlocked until 5:10 with a line of customers waiting to enter. Although we were the first to walk in and sit at the bar, we were the last of six groups to be served at the bar. We were told we could eat at the bar and a server would be coming. Waited about a half hour until we asked what was going on . Bartender clearly did not flag the server down for us. The waitress was nice and attentive when we finally had her take our order but had to rush eating because i needed to be somewhere by 7:09. Really thought 2 hours would be enough time. Terrible communication about how they run seating people. I agree with above review. Certainly need to be a regular at this place. Fish fry was mediocre and pricey but get soup and salad with the fish fry. Don’t think I’ll be back.

Steer clear of this joint unless you are one of the regular crowd. You will experience the same “silent treatment” other reviews talk about. Super weird. You will stand in a very nice looking dining room full of empty tables until one of the family members running the joint will curtly tell you that you should have gotten a reservation. Like other people have said, they will try to dissuade you with the wait time, which increases if you say you will stay. I understand if you want to operate like an exclusive club, but this place sees itself as a friendly ‘Stallis corner tavern, which it absolutely is not. More like a failed hotel-turned retirees’ social club. That should be conveyed in the website, but this place still bills itself as a regular restaurant for some reason.

If you want a classy, mid century style, midwestern supper club go to Henry Flach’s or the 5 o’ Clock.

Terrible! It’s possibly the worst customer service I’ve ever received. We were told it would be an hour plus wait. Understandable for a Friday night fish fry with a party of six. No exaggeration, It took almost 20 minutes for the bartender to even acknowledge us. It really felt like he didn’t care at all about our party because we weren’t regulars. After an hour and twenty minute wait, we sat in an empty dining room and were told there were only two orders of cod left. The waitress, who also didn’t seem to care about us because we weren’t regulars, told us she was too busy to take our order unless we all knew what we wanted at that moment. The fish was not worth the wait.

I am VERY picky about my fish fry. There aren’t any places in Milwaukee I like till I found this one. Perfect amount of breading, seasoning and Perfect portions. They also have walleye and perch. High high highly recommend

I absolutely love the Friday Fish Fry here; large variety and every dish is spectacular. However, this is the second time I’ve called ahead to make “reservations” and was told over the phone “we won’t be busy” and in spite of my wanting to reserve, it was not taken. Got to the establishment to be told “one hour wait”. Either take reservations and stick to them, or don’t and post “serviced in order arrived”.

As someone who recently lost a very close family member via gun, and in deep depression and PTSD from such, I did NOT appreciate the unnecessary and severely inappropriate pro-gun “decore.”

I make it a point to keep it eyes away from certain unbearable things (guns) right now, and didn’t appreciate having to walk into a blindsided PTSD moment at a damn restaurant.

Hot Tip: Liquid Johnny’s has excellent and huge portions of fish fry on the other side of the State Fairgounds.
