Starr BBQ has been here for 17 years. I had the pleasure of speaking to the Owner, Santa Gonzales. She’s a wonderful lady with a beautiful smile and great love for her bbq. This is the best bbq in all of Starr county. Some other places around here cook their brisket in the oven and finish it on the smoker to add some smoke flavor. Not here. You’ll see the beautiful smoke ring on the brisket which is proof of a long smoke. I also judge a bbq brisket by how thin or thick the slices are. The thicker the slice, the more confident the restaurant is that it is tender. If it’s real thin, I think that’s a way of hiding the toughness. You’ll be real satisfied with the tenderness and smoke flavor. They also have delicious chicken and sausage. Not many places in Starr county, or RGV in my opinion, make a good mustard potato salad. I love potato salad and this is one of the best. Well worth your money.

Great food. My favorite is the chopped brisket. Atmosphere is amazing. Service is exceptional. Wait time is decent, not too bad. Always clean and well kept. Busy place, it’s always packed.

Terrible Texas BBQ. But beautiful interior/atmosphere.
Texas brisket never ever gets bbq sauce on it from the kitchen. If you, the person eating the brisket decides to add bbq sauce, that’s your choice.
Start BBQ put a sweet BBQ sauce on their brisket, which was not emphasized on the menu. It ruined the lunch. Macaroni & cheese had no flavor, but the green beans and iced tea were very good.
If you decide to visit, ensure you ask for no sauce, hopefully you’ll have a better experience.

The pork ribs were burned on one side and cold. The brisket was ok but too much BQ sauce. Let the customer put the sauce to their liking. We were not checked on after we got the meal, and the service was very slow. The girl with glasses was on the window, floor and register, and the other one on the phone . Not taking orders. Not coming back.

Food is good but make sure y’all check your receipts this lady cashier by the name of Martha was charging me $15/$18 more and supposedly it was taxes . I only order 2 brisket plates which are $14.02 tax included each and half pound of ribs comes out to $12 half of pound how was my total $64. And change ?? I told her my total wasn’t adding up she said oh it’s taxes then she said oh sorry it was the machine .

Without a doubt, if you’re in the valley, you have to come here. They have the best BBQ in the 956 area. One thing you have to do for sure is if you go there, get an order of the Rattlesnake Eggs … you’re gonna love me for this one. I’m got going to gatekeep the secret is out!!!
