The hot food is precooked and staff prepares it in a microwave or air fryer for speed. This means if you order anything hot with cheese to go that at least one third of the cheese will be melted into the wrapper as well as whatever chemicals are in the wrapper will leech into your food — the sandwiches are assembled, wrapped, and then heated.
When you place an order you are given a small receiver which lights up and vibrates to notify you of your order being ready. Hold on to your receipt as the number on your receiver is unrelated to your Order Number which is listed on your receipt unless you choose to receive an e-mailed copy.
On multiple occasions I have asked to dine in only to be served food to go, which is especially troubling given the fact there is ample seating when I have stopped by to eat. Kitchen staff wears plastic gloves but no hairnets which I believe is why I have repeatedly found small hairs in my food. I have found zero establishments outside of Plover/Rapids/Point was adequate food sanitation protocols in place; but Section 3 of the Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (ATCP) 70.10 Personnel standards of The Wisconsin Legislature says this should be not be the case anywhere statewide (it specifically says headbands, etc. do not meet this standard).
The coffee is the best in the area if you’re not willing nor able to drive to Plover/Wisconsin Rapids/Stevens Point — a low bar to cross, but worth mentioning as we have so few options in this county. To their credit the frozen foods served at this breakfast + lunch spot are certainly a cut above restaurants in this area, and the breads (and bagels and wraps) used are for lunch items are of a decent quality (many of them appear to be semi-locally sourced).
The sweets are where this establishment really shines as I believe it is the passion and focus of the owners evidenced by the menu rotating seasonally while maintaining staple favorites and signature specialities.
Overall they have the market cornered in the area if only due to the quality and share number of options of flavors for coffees/espresso/lattes/iced+cold drinks and the sweet breakfast treats offered.
There is live music advertised, but so far I have not seen any performances. I am glad the community has a place where people can sit comfortably (tables with chairs, couches with low coffee tables, and diner-style bar seating with counters); but I hope with time this business continues to improve and thrive as it appears to be a cornerstone of the local economy.
I enjoyed a chai tea latte (3.99) and a cappuccino cinnamon and chocolate chip muffin (3.99).
