Over time the service became inconsistent, which is why I switched to the Tigard Marketplace location, where I now go every day because they’re consistently friendly and get my order right.
At the Durham location, most workers are friendly. Robin is always pleasant, Gray is great, and Andy is kind but a little too by the book, which sometimes gets in the way of connecting with regular customers. It also seems like I often end up visiting when newer employees are being trained, and morning rush is not the ideal time for that.
My usual order is a passion tea I mix with an energy drink, plus a breakfast sandwich, and I like my personal cup filled to the top with ice and water. Lately they’ve been using a carafe to pour ice and water, and it’s never enough. The breakfast sandwiches also became inconsistent, sometimes cold or falling apart.
This store has good people and potential, but the consistency and attention to detail just aren’t what they used to be. I hope they can get back to the warm, reliable atmosphere they once had, because when things were good, this was truly my favorite morning stop.
Over time, Starbucks cups have become less resilient to hotter beverages like teas and americanos, so I ask for double cups. This is often missed and I’m just given a sleeve. Today was one of those days. I drank my cold brew on the way home, then when I took my first drink of the tea the cup went flat in my hand and the hot tea spilled over my hand. It had cooled enough to drink and I wasn’t injured in anyway, but I felt that it would be good for the store to know that this happened and that the new cup integrity isn’t so good, or the lids are defective or whatever. I call the store and ask for a manager, the person who answered said they was the supervisor. I immediately said, “This isn’t a real complaint, more of a heads up about something you guys might want to be aware of. I’m not mad at anyone there at your store.” Then I tried to explain what had happened FOUR TIMES, each time they kept interrupting me in a defensive tone. The second time I said, “Please let me finish what I have to say before you respond, I wasn’t mad to begin with but now I’m getting mad because you won’t let me finish what I have to say.” I asked them again after they rapid fire interrupted me again. Exasperated with the situation I used the F-word once, not directed at any person, literally used in context of the tea that cup malfunction and not at her or even the company. She IMMEDIATELY informed me that since I had used a vulgarity, she was writing it up and ending the call. I understand and respect corporate policy regarding verbal abuse from customers or other staff. What I don’t understand is the disingenuous interpretation of my cussing during our conversation. Or continued rude interruptions after literally asking nicely, “Please , allow me to finish what I have to say before responding.” That, or their repeated defensive attempts to interrupt me before I could complete a sentence an a half. Then hanging up? What the hell? Why is this person in management? I was even clear that I hadn’t been injured, and they wouldn’t even let me finish talking to let them know to be careful for other people. I’ve done this at other stores over malfunctioning lids over the years and management staff has ALWAYS been gracious instead of defensive. Bad job King City/Durham Starbucks. Bad job.
It is a very convenient location especially when in that area shopping, running errands, working out, etc.
The service is always super-friendly and drinks and food are spot-on.
The friendly staff makes a conscious effort to remember you if you’re a regular and make you feel like a member of their family. They have a knack for providing fast yet efficient service that is sure to boost your day. In turn, it’s worth your while to drive the extra mile or two and visit this location. B+/A-
