For the five cents I had to pull out of the drive‑thru line to go excavate from the Bermuda Triangle under my car seat, I truly hope it’s being donated to the “Teach Baristas to Recognize Their Daily Regulars Before They Treat Them Like They’re Robbing the Store” fund. As a loyal chai lover who shows up every morning, tips every morning, and forgives the occasional “oops, we forgot half your drink,” I really thought we were past this.
This morning I rolled up with $11.15 in cash. My total? $11.20.
And instead of saying, “Girl, you practically pay rent here,” the new girl looked at the register like it was DEFCON 1 and whispered to the purple‑hair supervisor, “What do I do? The till will be short five cents.” You would’ve thought I asked her to approve a bank loan.
Purple‑hair supervisor didn’t miss a beat. She hit her with the corporate‑level savagery:
“Make her pull out of the line.”
Like I was trying to pass counterfeit money. Like the cameras were rolling. Like Starbucks HQ was about to parachute in and audit the drawer over a nickel.
And let’s be honest:
Y’all are so ruthless, I’m convinced you would’ve done the SAME thing to the person behind me in the Mercedes. You’d knock on their window like, “Sir, I don’t care if your car costs more than this entire plaza—run me that nickel.” That’s the level of commitment you have to the grind.
The new girl looked traumatized when I said, “I can’t believe y’all making me get out of line for 5 cents. So I guess I shouldn’t tip anymore… just in case I’m ever short again.” Suddenly everybody remembered exactly who I was.
Let’s talk math:
You make $60–$70 a week off me, and today you shook me down for $0.05 like certified loan sharks. The BUCKs is NUTs.
And please—don’t come apologizing later. We all know who gave the order.
I see you, purple‑hair supervisor,
Did someone make you pull out of line for a nickel today? Didn’t think so.
The atmosphere inside is a bit steriel, but the outside seating is nice.
Efficient as always. Not many places to sit inside…too hot to be outside though there were a lot more seats there
Convenient parking…mid Coachella Valley, so it worked well.
