From the moment I walked in, the condition of the café was a red flag. The establishment was nearly empty (one guest outside and only a few inside), yet the interior was filthy. Tables and chairs were covered in crumbs, floors were sticky with visible spills, the napkin dispenser area was dirty, and even the restrooms were in unacceptable condition. There was no excuse for such a lack of cleanliness.
What disturbed me most, however, was the food handling I observed.
A female employee named Elaine (identified as a “Leader” on her visibly dirty apron) was preparing and warming food while another male employee (badge starting with “B”, none of the name badges were clearly visible) was making beverages. During sandwich preparation, Elaine dropped multiple plastic utensils on the floor. She picked them up and then placed one directly into the bag with a warmed sandwich for a customer. From the floor.
She then returned the remaining dropped utensils back to the counter with the supposedly clean utensils.
At no point did I observe her washing or sanitizing her hands after picking items up off the floor. Shortly after, she used a dustpan and resumed handling food with bare hands (again, without washing or sanitizing). There was no sense of urgency, no correction, and no acknowledgment that this behavior was unacceptable.
This is not a minor mistake. This is a serious food safety violation that compromises customer health and well-being. Cross-contamination like this is exactly how people get sick.
I was so disgusted by what I witnessed that I could not eat my own order.
This experience was awful and honestly frightening. Food establishments have a responsibility to uphold basic sanitation standards. What I observed today showed a complete failure in leadership, food safety practices, and accountability.
I sincerely hope management and corporate take this seriously. Customers should never have to question whether their food was handled safely.
Highly recommend! I drink green tea almost every day. ❤️
But today I had an absolutely awful service: I’ve arrived to a very dirty eatery, I was walking around trying to find a clean spot, ending up using my personal sanitizer to clean a little area to sit down and have my breakfast. Two employee were loud with each other, laughing and making inappropriate jokes.
While placing an order I’ve noticed how dirty was the prep area, the employee hands wasn’t the cleanest either. My food was prepped awfully sloppy, the sandwiches were slide inside the bags in a very unpleasant manner, one of the sandwiches was broken in half, toppings were all over the bag and looked very unappetizing. My beverages were both much smaller in size, and most of the hot drink was a foam. When I kindly asked a male barista to remake my beverages, he gave me a mean look and said that he can refund me instead of making a fresh cup of coffee. He should change his rude attitude and serve loyal and new customers in a better way.
Female employee was very rude, not only to me but other guests as well. I really didn’t enjoy her unpleasant attitude.
Highly dissatisfied with my experience.
My Venti beverage was not full.
Only thing preventing me from giving this 5 stars is the very bizarre service hours. Isn’t it strange for a Starbucks (of all places) to close at 6:30-7pm? Never seen that before. I like to study late when it’s quieter and not as hot, but often end up having to leave because of the early closing time. What is driving this? Other Starbucks are open till 10pm, or even midnight!
Also, I can’t help but notice the house music is a bit loud, and I’ve noticed this at most Starbucks in San Antonio.
Overall, excellent service, but closing early every day and the loud music kind of hampers the experience.
