On October 10th at 4:10 PM, I placed a mobile order for a Grande Pecan Oat Milk Latte with 1 pump of syrup. The app said it would be ready between 4:15–4:20 PM. When the app showed “ready,” I got out of the car to pick up my drink. I thought it would be a quick grab-and-go.
But when I got inside, my drink was nowhere to be found. I checked my phone to make sure I had ordered from the correct store. A partner working at the bar asked what I ordered and whether it was a mobile order. I said yes and told him my drink. He replied that I’d need to wait because there were drinks ahead of mine. I said okay.
However, I noticed he kept making cold drinks and never got to mine. Since I expected to pick up the drink quickly, I hadn’t taken my baby out of the car when I stepped inside. So I asked him if he could please prioritize my order because my baby was still in the car.
He just said, “Oh, I’m sorry,” and walked back to the bar. I thought he was going to make my drink. Instead, he quickly handed me a cold drink. But I had ordered a hot one.
For a moment, I doubted myself and wondered if I had placed the wrong order. I told him I had ordered a warm drink, but maybe my accent made him think I said wrong drink. He smiled sarcastically and said, “If you ordered the wrong drink, you’ll need to get back in line :)” — and then just walked away, trying to dismiss me as if nothing happened.
That forced smile, with the expression that basically screamed “what a difficult customer,” was incredibly condescending. Even then, I was still blaming myself, wondering if I had made a mistake — until I checked and confirmed that I had not. The cup he gave me didn’t even have “ICE” written on it. The lid wasn’t properly sealed, and milk foam spilled out.
When I used to be a partner, if a customer wasn’t satisfied, I would always remake the drink until they were happy.
In the end, I was in a rush, so I just took the drink and left. Apparently the 1 pump of syrup was being ignored — turned out the drink was overly sweet, filled with syrup, the lid was loose, my hand was sticky with milk foam, and the drink was cold. All this for nearly $7.
And yet somehow, I was made to feel like I was the unreasonable and rude customer — even though I didn’t do anything wrong from start to finish.
Uncomfortable asking. Nicest baristas and chill indoor atmosphere. I see a lot of people hangout here. All other locations local to me have made me feel awkward or uncomfy.
Noah is the best! He always nails my drink so I prefer he makes it. Will always choose this Starbucks over others.
