On this occasion, due to an application malfunction, we inadvertently placed a duplicate mobile order. This was promptly brought to the attention of the on-duty employe Lucas and Caren. Rather than exercising discretion, problem-solving, or even a baseline level of customer service, she, Caren categorically refused to issue a refund, repeatedly invoking what she asserted was “Starbucks policy,” and instructed us to contact customer service instead.
We calmly explained that we had recently received refunds at this location for comparable app-related issues, including instances where items were unavailable. Caren responded by stating those refunds “should not have happened” and that she would be “enforcing the policy,” without producing or articulating any actual policy language.
For clarity, I asked directly whether the refusal was due to an inability to process the refund. She responded, in a distinctly condescending and dismissive tone, that she was fully capable but simply would not issue the refund. She then told us to “have a better day,” an unnecessary remark that carried a clear insinuation regarding our demeanor despite the fact that we remained composed, respectful, and factual throughout the interaction.
When I asked her to repeat her statement to ensure I understood correctly, she did so without modification.
Subsequently, we contacted Starbucks Customer Service, who immediately issued the refund and explicitly confirmed that this was not, in fact, a Starbucks policy. They further apologized for the interaction we experienced at this location.
Given the misrepresentation of policy, the refusal to provide assistance despite capability, and the patronizing manner in which we were addressed, I formally requested escalation to the regional management level. As a customer and as a military family accustomed to standards of accountability, professionalism, and chain-of-command resolution this interaction was unacceptable.
This was not a misunderstanding. It was a deliberate choice to withhold assistance, misstate policy, and speak down to customers. That distinction matters.
Because I said that, a fake as hell smiling guy in his early 20s implied that I was trying to get more for free. He was smirking. I told him over and over—probably 20 times—that I just want what I normally order, in the trenta size. I guess he woke up and choose violence lol. he kept arguing with me.Try to shame my english.
I had also ordered a sandwich and egg bites. Then he even mocked me, saying something like, “oh you’re putting your food on the passenger seat of your car,” as if that was something to ridicule me for.
I was driving where else am I supposed to put my food if not on the passenger seat? Why was he insulting me over that?
I am Asian. Am I not allowed to get my own $6 coffee and $20 breakfast from Starbucks without being insulted?
All I said was that the foam amount was small. And suddenly he turned it into some kind of “be honest if you want more” lecture, insulting me, arguing aggressively, and even mocking my accent.
All I did was notice that the drink I get every day was made incorrectly and obviously asked them to make it properly. That’s all.
If you hate your life and feel like insulting someone, then do it outside of work hours. Don’t take it out on customers—especially not with racist behavior toward someone’s appearance or accent.
