Their credit card machine is out of order at least 2-3 times a month, which is frustrating.
The drink quality is inconsistent- sometimes it tastes fine, other times it tastes like an ashtray, literally. Theres been times I get home and have to dump my drink because it tastes so bad. Waste of money.
Not to mention a few of the baristas need to learn some manners. When paying with a credit card in the drive thru (on days the machine actually works), there’s some select staff that will watch to see if you tip or not. Not only is it awkward, it’s just downright rude. And if you don’t tip, they’ll sneer at you and get an attitude. Tip culture is ridiculous here. Baristas get an hourly wage, well above what a server would make. You’re not living for tips – stop being so entitled.
Do not plan on coming back.
I ordered a Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso, a drink I order frequently as it’s been my favorite over the last two years. I ordered my drink with light ice, when the drink came out it was made with the normal amount of ice. I politely let the barista know I ordered light ice and she told me the drink I ordered can’t be made that way due to policy. I understand they use specific proportions so alterations can be difficult but also I’ve never had an issue with this as they usually top off the extra space at the top with oat milk. I’d like to also mention the barista that took my order didn’t say anything to me about my order, so this could have been avoided if he had let me know, or if this was an issue with adding extra product to a drink I would have happily paid extra for the extra oat milk.
The manager ended up coming over and remaking the drink for me but begrudgingly and reiterating that policy states they can’t make it this way but she’ll do it this one time. When she handed it to me “I said thank you, I really appreciate this”, she didn’t say anything back. The issue i have is that at the end of our interaction she looked at another barista and made frustrated faces and laughed at each other looking back at me as though I’m the problem. I understand being a barista and dealing with situations like this can be annoying/frustrating but maybe keep your laughing and snickering to yourself or save it for the back room. I was nice and polite the whole time and left feeling crummy.
When they go back to talking in good faith, then I’ll go back and change my review.
They need their baristas and workers more than I need their coffee. I’ll go to any number of local coffee shops until they fix their issues.
There is reasonable size seating area to left in back across from the restrooms but you aren’t aware of it unless you use the restrooms. Walls, floor tile and furnishings are dull. It is not a hang out spot. But there is an abundance of parking spaces available unlike the attractive ambiance of the Dunn Loring Metro Starbucks a mile or so away.
I come here early in the morning only. Often here at 5:00 AM open but rarely after 6:00 AM when morning traffic begins to build during the week. I like to get twice toasted bagel with butter and coffee and enjoy at one of the 2 top tables in front of the store. If you ask order taker to twice toast they will. One heating time cycle is not enough to caramelize and also one heating cycle does not warm bagel enough to melt butter. All Starbucks in my experience serve cold butter directly from refrigerator. Much better flavor to my taste twice toasted and sufficient temperature to melt their cold butter.
