Chef Brian and his wife, Kate from Star Diner (as well as most of the kitchen staff and some servers, too!) Bring you, Star Taco. We’ve moved down the road, to the Old Rock Cafe, right next to the courthouse & across from Zuma. We shifted gears from fine(r) dining to counter service and tacos! We’ve been open now for 5 weeks and boy, how great it is to be back!

I went to Marshall, North Carolina today for the first time since Hurricane Helene devastated the town.
It broke my heart to see that they are still struggling, but I found a beam of light in the new Star Taco!
This is the new incarnation of star diner, which was my favorite upscale brunch.
They have all kinds of gorgeous tacos for sale, but I got the shrimp and grits.
The old Star Diner was famous for its shrimp and grits and they did not fail me today.
Please head into Marshall and go to one of the five restaurants there.
They would appreciate the business!

Life changing Sea Bass taco! Everything was fantastic and we tried so many things! Guacamole-amazing. Street corn dip-scrumptious. Winter Green salad-even non salad eaters will love it. Go early, it fills up fast! Would have put more pictures on here but we ate it all so fast!

From the amazing team who brought you Star Diner comes Star Taco. Star Taco is the latest iteration, and deserves our support. It’s heartening to see this resurrection after Helene destroyed Star Diner (and our town.) But these folks have come back fighting. You won’t find better than Chef Brian’s incredible food and Kate’s legendary hospitality. Whenever I eat with them I feel like I’m home. It’s a glow that lasts the rest of the day. What they do is more than make food—they make memories and hours you want to hold onto.

Yum- exceeded our expectations! I had the seabass taco and the yam and black bean taco. The table split the Brussels, guacamole and the corn dip. Was happy surprised that the guacamole was great- definitely did not taste like it fell off the Sysco food truck- it was great!

Pleasantly surprised! New to the area, the tacos were very well made and generously portioned. The short rib taco was amazing, but they were all very good. Prices reasonable, including alcoholic drinks. Will definitely return!
Moderate noise was due to the birthday party of kids that came in, it was quiet before they showed, but if they’re busy, I would expect more noise.

The New Year’s eve 2025-2026 popup dinner was awesome. The usual friendly staff, top tier menu, and great atmosphere. Thanks to the extra staff and family at Star Tacothat pitched in for this event. We dined in the covered patio, and it was fun. Very comfortable with the heaters and blankets, and a bit extra fun dining “outside”. It was nice to get a night with the old Start Diner menu and vibe.

We will be returning to Star Taco again and again. We are so glad chef Brian has reinvented Star Diner. This new entity is fabulous! We had the briquet tacos, the pork belly taco, and the pulled pork taco. All were delicious. The staff are as as excited to be there as the customers! Hubby and I agree these are probably the best tacos we’ve had in NC. Can’t wait to have breakfast there ASAP. do yourself a huge favor and stop in for some fantastic food. You won’t be sorry!

Soooooo excited to have tacos here in Marshall! Been waiting on this day since I moved here. We tried it for the first time this week and have been back twice since already. Yum! Also happy to see good vegetarian options on the menu. Was thinking the sweet potato black bean taco would be just that, but it has more on it and is very flavorful!!
