I became an instant fan over 15 years ago. There’s a salon just a few steps down on 20th that serviced my kids would and while they were getting something done, it was my chance to find something to eat in the neighborhood. On my very first visit ever, I knew in my head I wanted something with lamb and rice. I stated this to the owner who seated my wife and I and he recommended the House Special. It was a biriyani with pieces of chicken, lamb, beef, shrimp and love. I refuse to order anything else because this has everything I could possibly want in a meal, and it can last me 3 days…very rarely, though. Usually it only lasts me 20 minutes, lol. My wife enjoys their Tikka Masala and just yesterday my daughter wanted to try their Vegetable Samosa. I always try their food, and it’s hard to not get full so fast doing this because everything really does taste magnificent. I think their pricing is fair for what you get. I have never had any issues with anyone in there and it was such a please to see the owner moving about in the back yesterday as well. Oh, I almost forgot to mention…their Raita is the BEST. I know it’s a bit on the sweet side vs traditional Raita…but that’s probably what marries my food together. I’m very grateful for this place and that it’s still here all these years later.

I have been ordering from this place for about 6 years now. I always order the shrimp nirgisi very spicy and my husband always orders the spicy chicken curry. This place has some of the best consistency in quality that I’ve seen in any restaurant.
Every time I order from here it’s so delicious and I’m always so impressed with how freaking tasty it is EVERY time!
I LOVE this place and any other place I’ve tried curry or anything spicy at all just pales in comparison.
Thank you thank you thank you for the delicious food!!

Star of India has been my favorite Indian spot for years. The food is fantastic and the portions will last you for days. I often freeze the leftover sauce and use it for cooking later. If they offered butter chicken, I’d eat here every week. I’m confident it would be the best in the area. Highly recommend if you’re looking for reliably high-quality Indian cuisine

We’ve been a fan for almost 10 years since we moved here. The owner gentleman is wonderful, as well as the staff. They remember you (we always order the same menu items ) and always greets us with a smile! They are full of kindness and friendliness. Food is delicious, very generous portions, too. We especially love their garlic naan (lots of fresh garlic sprinkled!), lamb korma and other curries, and biryanis. Highly recommend! It’s our local favorite for take out dinners!! We’ve never eaten inside, but it is a very quiet, peaceful ambience. I’m sure the service will be fantastic.

I have been frequenting Star of India for over 20 years. The food is always delicious and the portions are always very generous. The ambiance here is unique, comfortable, and inviting. It is dimly lit (for anyone who that may be an issue for) but has so much character. I’ve enjoyed many meals here with my family over the years, and every time we were greeted so warmly by the family that owns/runs it. More recently I’ve enjoyed ordering their food for delivery. Either way the food never disappoints. The curries (sauces) are absolutely delicious. Some of our faves include the chicken tikka masala, chicken peshwari, and shrimp jal-frozi, along with the star appetizer, papdum, and chutneys. Just recently came to find out that they are also participating with 2g2g which I think is amazing on their part. Always love giving them my business.

I’ve only done a take out pickup but the restaurant looks super cozy. The food was so good! The buyer chicken has a nice, flavorful kick to it (it’s not just spicy for the sake of being spicy). The chicken and rice is nice and smoky and the portion was generous – it was enough for me and my husband. Can’t wait to try again!

Oh. My. God. Or should I say oh my Shiva. And Vishnu. And Ganesh… That’s how this food tasted. Like all the Hindu gods themselves stopped whatever they were doing and came down from heaven to enter the bodies of the kitchen staff and make it themselves, in this quaint unsuspecting little hidden gem of a shop. I cannot, I repeat, cannot encourage you enough to come ASAP to this place and grab a plate.
The ambiance just has the most calming vibe I’ve had the privilege to enjoy. The music selection is sublime. The decor, straight out of a movie set and so genuine to Indian culture. And the service? Think James Bond when he visits a Michelin star restaurant and is known by all the staff. Usual table, Mr. Bond?
I’ve had the pleasure of encountering the best experiences out there, but this one goes with extra passion. Thank you for bringing joy to my loved ones and I, with your heartfelt commitment and authentic Indian food mastery.

This is the worst Indian food I’ve ever had. We ordered the chicken biryani and the reshmi kebab.
The biryani had some sort of gravy mixed into the rice which gave it a thick consistency (which should not be the case if you’re serving biryani). The flavour itself was not good, just a bunch of spicy rice. The chicken quality was mid.
The reshmi kebab was even more of a letdown. It was chicken that was clearly prepared days before thrown into a mix of bell peppers and a truckload of oil. That is NOT how reshmi kebab should taste.
Very upsetting experience. If you want authentic Indian food, do NOT order from this place.

Absolutely atrocious food- chole saag and garlic naan were delivered on time. However the chole saag smelled fully rancid and tasted horrible.
Eat at your own risk.
