We love star of India. It’s been our go-to Indian restaurant for years. The chicken tikka masala is a must have for anyone trying them out for the first time. Would highly recommend!

Highly recommend this place! Ive so far had Vegetable Biriyani, Malai Kofta, Paneer, Samosa and Naan bread. Everything is so flavorful and prepared perfectly. I believe its family owned and that might be the reason for the attention to detail. Everyone was warm and friendly. If you like traditional north Indian food give them a try.

Star of India is the best Indian restaurant I’ve ever been to. Not only because of the delicious homemade food, but the warm and inviting dining experience that the owner and his family create. We recently learned that they imported their clay oven from India. You’re truly getting an authentic experience at the Star of India- it’s a hidden gem in Ahwatukee. We frequently get dinner here, and it never disappoints. While we certainly have our favorite dishes, everything we’ve ordered has been phenomenal. The garlic naan, samosas, biryanis, masalas, tandoori, and vegetarian dishes are all incredible. A must try spot!

While the food and background music were great and the staff was friendly, Star of India suffers from 3 issues: overpriced food, slow service, and poor cost transparency.

The food here is overpriced. Most of the appetizers are $14-16, which approaches the cost of entrees at other restaurants. They were also out of papad, which was a great disappointment to some of us. To make matters worse, the service was extremely slow. Despite the restaurant being mostly empty on a Friday night, we waited around an hour for our food to be served.

We also encountered a wide variety of issues regarding bill payment transparency. First, the receipt we were given was handwritten and very difficult to read (see attached). Second, it did not specify how much tax was charged. Third, a “non-cash charge” was added to the bill without us being told beforehand that we could avoid this charge by paying with cash (see attached). Fourth, the price of several menu items (malai kofta, garlic naan, roti) are not listed in the online menu, which made it difficult to verify the amount that we should’ve paid. Fifth and most problematically, the total amount was more than the sum of the individual items, so we were overcharged without any obvious explanation.

Please do better.

Very beautiful restaurant. I had no idea that they have been open for 20 plus years. They are so attentive, very clean, the food was sooo good, I made my husband get his own plate so I don’t have to share with him. We will continue to come back. Thank you so much!!!

Very good and authentic Indian food; the mango lassi was amazing and very sweet, unlike some other restaurants that make the mango lassi bitter. The garlic Naan was tasty and very crispy, and the chicken Tika Masala had a very good taste and texture. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the rice. I think they put some type of spice I didn’t like, but it still wasn’t bad. The service was amazing, and the restaurant was very clean. I got family-run vibes from the place. The food is also Halal, which is amazing. I got my whole meal within 10–15 minutes, which is very fast for Indian restaurants.

This is literally one of the best Indian restaurants we have been to in the entire United States. We make a point of coming here whenever we are both in Phoenix. Our only complaint is that we always order too much food, since it is too difficult to choose between their many excellent dishes.

Absolutely love this place. We used to come here all the time but moved to Texas. Now that we are back, we started going again. The owner Preet is a wonderful human being and fantastic cook. I ordered the chicken Saag and my wife got the chicken tikka masala. Just as amazing as it was 4.5 yrs before. I VERY highly recommend this place.

4.5 stars

I love this place the owner is such an awesome guy really cars about the food he puts out and the service. I know it’s hard for some being the “lack” of service but it’s a small location and like many places it’s really hard to find people to work. Every time I have gone here they have treated me great and the food was great even if I have to wait. It’s worth it. They do spicy well!. Undoubtedly one my favorite Indian restaurants in the area. The chicken tandoori it fantastic and the lamb is so tender!
