A Satisfying Experience at Star of India, Detroit!

Rating: 4/5 stars

I recently dined at Star of India in Detroit and had a pleasant experience. The moment I walked in, I was struck by the warm and inviting ambiance. The decor was elegant, and the service was attentive.

The food was good, with some standout dishes and a few that didn’t quite hit the mark. The daal makhani, appetizer combo, and alu karai were all flavorful, but I felt that the taste could be improved upon. However, the bread options were excellent, with a variety of naan and roti to choose from.

Overall, Star of India offers a decent range of options for Indian food lovers. While the taste may not be exceptional, the quality of the food and the ambiance make it a solid choice for a night out.

Recommended for: Fans of Indian cuisine, those looking for a cozy dining experience.

Will I return? Yes, I’d like to try more of their dishes and see if they refine their flavors.

Rating Breakdown:

– Food quality: 3.5/5
– Service: 4/5
– Ambiance: 4.5/5
– Value: 4/5

If you’re in the Detroit area and craving Indian food, Star of India is worth a visit. With some tweaks to their recipes, they could elevate their game and become a top-rated spot.

Visit was 10/25.

A solid 4 and 1/2 Stars. The service was friendly and and inviting, the portions were of a reasonable size and the prices were not that far off from average.

Pictured is the boneless chicken byriani, medium spicy. (Remind me next time to go lower on the spice since I’m an American and my poor body is not used to this, LOL)

What made this an even better experience was the service from the two gentlemen that helped me. Both were incredibly warm, friendly and accommodating. Something so rare to see nowadays.

Next time I’m back home in Michigan I look forward to coming back and trying a couple of their other dishes.

This was my first experience with Indian cuisine; I’d like to give my take on it. As you enter the dining area, you are greeted with smiling faces from the staff; the sweet yet spicy aroma already has your senses tingling. I decided to try this place based on the recommendation from a reel I watched from “Chow Down Detroit.” I decided to order exactly what he ordered in the video, and I was not let down by any means. It was sweet on the first bite, and by the third a little kick joined the party. It was absolutely delicious.
Now let me touch on the staff. Out of 5 stars I’d give them 10, out of all the restaurants that I have visited I’ve never experienced better service than I did here. They were extremely greatful that you choose their place to dine at. They were very attentive and consistent available if we needed anything. The restaurant was exceptionally clean, probably the cleanest place I’ve ever been to.
I highly recommend you visit this restaurant and try for yourself. I will absolutely return, but I will order something different off the menu. From the pictures on the menu I would be short changing myself if I didn’t. Everything looked so good.
1000% recommend

I really enjoyed the quality of the chicken and depth of flavor. I was delighted to find a mango pickle in the chicken achari. I ordered “mild” and it was indeed mild.

Hands down the best Indian restaurant in Metro Detroit, and it’s 100% halal! Star of India has been awarded year after year by Hour Detroit, Metro Times, Click On Detroit, and more, and it’s easy to see why.

The food is consistently flavorful, authentic, and perfectly spiced. Every dish feels like it’s made with love. The butter chicken, samosas, and garlic naan are my go-tos, but honestly, everything I’ve tried has been amazing.

It’s a cozy, family-owned spot with some of the most welcoming service I’ve ever experienced. A true hidden gem in Ferndale and absolutely worth the drive.

Wow! Was impressed on several levels. Their menu had a wide variety of Indian dishes. The portions were generous, and they didn’t blink when the seven of us had separate billing requests and requested variations to the menu. The stir fried shrimp was
spectacular and I also got to sample other items from those in our group. All of the ones I tasted was worthy of making this favorite premiere Ferndale restaurant. Star of India was voted Detroit’s fave Indian restaurant. They even had Bollywood movies playing on the TV!

Killer dinner! We had a group of eight and split two Star of India appetizers and several dinners. Everything was amazing!!! We had two young kids who lived the naan and butter chicken. The chicken pasanda and tandoori chicken were excellent! Saag paneer was the best I’ve had. The vegetable korma was spot-on! Everyone loved the garlic and cheese naan too.
Our friends commented about how inexpensive the meal was.
Star of India is the best Indian food around!!!
