Stagecoach Restaurant is a longstanding traveler’s pit-stop and town watering hole, serving Salado locals and passersby since 1860. After a full renovation, it returns offering guests limited grab-and-go breakfast, lunch, and dinner fare from a contemporary menu where Old Texas tradition meets modern techniques. The menu pays homage to the restaurant’s history with nods to original items as well as to the locale with salty Southern favorites like hush puppies. With an emphasis on local sourcing and the mindset of a hospitable Southern host, the experience is laid back and familial, with impeccable quality and attention to detail.

Ari did a great job taking care of us. The items we ordered were ok. The country fried steak was cooked well but the gravy was way too peppery.

The chicken was listed as pesto but was really like a mole. My wife didn’t like this because she doesn’t do spicy.

Terrible service&food from people trying to be nice? I think? On a Friday, I called to make a reservation, confirmed we would arrive during happy hour, when I arrived 45 mins later they said they arent having happy hour. What? I asked if they would honor the phone confirmation? After waiting 15 mins for water & complementary Hush puppies they said “the meal is comped.” Okay weird? But thanks? When they delivered the water, the waitress spilled it on the table and into my husband’s lap…really people? After waiting 25 mins 3 people checking on the drinks- FINALLY the cocktails were delivered. Then the food was underwhelming. No garnish? Bare plate, with sandwich and onion rings. Waitress confirmed that the Patties were not made in house. I told my husband, “if the meal wasn’t comped, I would leave.” I asked for mustard and was handed two mustard packets, like I was at McDonalds. Then after eating their subpar meal, we were charged for drinks = $28. And when I asked for change for cash, waitress looked at me like I had two heads. We paid cash because it looked like the fastest way to leave, and I told the waitress the $20 was a tip on the full amount of $78. . . With a stoic/blank look in response?!? No smile of gratitude? You did spill a full glass of water on my husband’s lap- and I still tipped you?!? In conclusion, Don’t bother eating here, there’s lots of other cute places- right across the street in fact!

Yes it’s sad they didn’t bring back the strawberry kiss. We had a huge party and we’ve been going there for years. That was something everyone in our party mentioned. We’re thrilled that they are keeping the restaurant going and it looks like much of the hotel is back in business. The food was very good. I have to ding them on the salads. We had six salads with grilled chicken. It’s a standard order. They brought out all the food, but no chicken on the salads. They said 5 minutes for the chicken. It was about more than 5. The chicken was very good when it did arrive and there was a lot of chicken!! They had only one full-time server for our party. She was doing the best she could, but she only had help bringing out the food. We would have been better off if they’d left tea and water pitchers in the room or told us they were available close by. The food was good. The hush puppies are there still and they were great. The goat cheese with toast was delicious. It’s a nice appetizer. The burgers got good compliments. The desserts are HUGE!! Everyone loved the carrot cake. The chocolate silk pie was also delicious. The apple turnover also got great raves. We’re already talking about bringing back our gang. I hope they work out the serving kinks (and bring back the kiss)!!! It’s such a wonderful location and a beautiful old restaurant. Also love the nod to the local artist scene. They have one of the bluebonnet pictures that was such a large part of that original art community.

I took a guest today and we were both disappointed. The food was terrible. This picture is supposed to be an over medium egg. The pancake had lemon in the batter, while the menu suggested on the pancake, therefore you couldn’t remove it. The kitchen had no chef, but was training someone. A three week server was training a 3 day server. Needless to say this restaurant will not make it, if someone who has been in the business doesn’t take over quickly My guest said their french toast said stuffed, but wasn’t and said the biscuits and gravy were not good. We will not be going back. Plus, there was some loud screeching noise that we couldn’t tell where it was coming
from.

Spacious restaurant in historic setting. They have many tables, booths, and bar stools with an island bar at the center of the dining room, the kitchen open at one end and a mirror at the other end.
We tried the grilled cheese and the patty melt. Their sample hush puppies were good, and the glazed carrots were especially good. We look forward to trying other specialties and their happy hour when we return.
The restaurant is located on the West side of the main North South road through town, right across from the local museum. They have lodgings and an evening bar in back as well as a gift shop to the side. It was fun to walk around the grounds after eating and see the historical markers.
There is free parking available on surrounding streets.

Newly renovated, I personally liked the old restaurant but the new one has a lot more room. First time we came in the service was excellent, second time was not good. Food is always hot and the old hush puppy recipe was way better. But overall the food is good, the apple dumpling was sooo tasty!

Great, well lit place with delicious food! Our waitress was incredibly nice and accommodating. Two in our party had the chicken fried chicken, and both loved it. I had the tomato bisque soup with the three cheese grilled cheese, and the soup was absolutely amazing. My only complaint is that the bread on the grilled cheese was pretty thick, so it didn’t have a great bread:cheese ratio. I would definitely come back for a bowl of the bisque!

I am getting more and more selective of where we go out to eat. I know it will be pricey, so I simply expect great tasting food and quality service in a nice atmosphere.

For years, I visited Stagecoach Inn restaurant. I have heard bad reviews with the changeover, but decided to try it myself. I won’t return, and that is a tragedy.

The simplest meal to fix is breakfast. When you can’t do that well, I have no hope for you fixing anything else correctly. Eggs over cooked and over peppered.

We have fond memories of this place, and unfortunately we won’t be making new ones.

I have eaten here since I was a kid. The hush puppies and Strawberry kiss are amazing. Quaint restaurant nestled in the middle of town with an abundance of antique shops. It’s the perfect place to stop and stretch your legs after an amazing meal or stay a night. Love this place!

An absolutely amazing Valentine’s dinner at Stagecoach in Salado, Texas. From the moment we walked in, everything was exceptional — the atmosphere, the food, and the attention to detail made the evening truly special.

A special thank you to our incredible server, Alaina, whose warmth, professionalism, and attentiveness elevated the entire experience. She made us feel welcomed and taken care of every step of the way.

Hat tip as well to the talented cooks and the entire staff behind the scenes. The quality of the food and the seamless service reflect a team that truly takes pride in what they do.

It wasn’t just dinner — it was a memorable experience we’ll be talking about for a long time. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a first-class dining experience.
