Stag is the place to be. Bekah is a saint. Top tier service. Great bread rolls. Phenomenal food. Great bar service. Even Mrs. Tisha & Mrs. Hailey at the check out counter/to go window are hustling! Only thing missing is Mrs. Donna! We are patrons for a lifetime!

It has been many years since I had been here, but the food was just as delicious as I had remembered. My dad had steak which was cooked to perfection and I had the salmon which was delicious. We will definitely be back.

Update: read the response below. “Fortunately” they have a large loyal customer base so they dont care about new ones is what I gather. Bad way to run a business…especially in this economy.

Food: Burn, baby, burn! Unfortunately, looking at some of the other reviews, burnt food is par for the course. I see the response from the owner saying please say something, but there is a big difference between saying something isn’t right and having enough professional fortitude to realize that you, as a cook, have burnt the food, but you send it out to the customer anyways in hopes it doesn’t come back. That’s not good service. My fiancé had ordered a chopped sirloin steak with fries, medium well. When it came out, it looked like a thick square hamburger that had been forgotten in the oven on broil. In other words, it was burnt, and the meat was well past well-done. My fiancé had asked what medium looks like for this kitchen, but the server said, “I don’t know,” so, erring on the side of caution, he went medium well. The meat was flavorless and was pretty much inedible. We threw most of it away. My pizza was good until I gave my fiancé the other half, and we realized that half was completely burnt as well. I got the minestrone, which was more like a chili than a minestrone with meat, beans, and some veggies. Ok at best, but not what I was expecting. The fries were ok, just lacking seasoning. BIG PLUS that pushed for three stars was that their beer was not flat.

Service: We never got her name. I asked what drinks they had, and she looked annoyed because I wasn’t detailed enough. I asked if I was missing part of the menu since the second page was blank, and she said no, also annoyed at that question, but it was a fair question to ask since my fiancé had a full menu (missing the advertisements after investigating). Then, I asked how big the pizzas were she said they come with 6 slices. I rephrased by using my hand and said, but how big are they? So I asked how big the slices were, and she said they were pretty decently sized pizzas, and I would likely take some home (I did). I decided to go with the 9-inch (A little larger than a personal pizza). After we put in our order, she came out with lasagna, but that wasn’t ours. She gave us a ticket that wasn’t ours. While waiting for food, she asked if we wanted another beer. I said I was fine, but my fiancé had his mouth full, and was unable to answer before she walked away. She gave us the wrong ticket and basically grabbed it out of my hand, saying that’s not ours. Also, the bus boy came by to grab our plates, we said thank you, and he just walked away. Staff had zero manners. The lady at the register was awesome and sweet, so two stars.

Atmosphere: I liked the atmosphere until I sat at the table. There was a dirty bucket of water on the table that was moved to a separate table as we were being seated. Cleaner was on the table from the bucket. Could have been worse, so I wiped it up. Tablecloths were torn to shreds, and flies were landing on the food, and it was not a warm day; it was a cool night.I also hate tables right next to the kitchen. It’s an unpleasant smell and unpleasant experience. I would remove that one table if I were the owner because nobody wants to be seated there. Like I said, the ambiance on the left side of the restaurant seemed quaint, but the right side was rickety and not very good. Don’t get me wrong, hole-in-the-wall, non-chain restaurants are some of the best restaurants I have ever been in, but this one was not one of those hidden gems.

Cost: For two burnt meals, a cup of soup and three beers, we came out to 39.00. Not bad for this economy, and the Coors Light on draft was only 1.50 each. Loved that aspect! Typically, with three beers, two meals, and a side, we would be spending a minimum of 50 bucks, so not bad pricing, just wish the rest wasn’t lacking.

Overall: I may come back for a beer, but the food and service were not pleasant, so we may not even come back then. It’s just disappointing because it was spoken of so highly by my colleague.

Sunday afternoon, seated right away. Great customer service, so friendly. I ordered the lasagna. It comes with a couple dinner rolls, cup of soup and a salad. They even had Cheerwine Zero in the glass bottle. Hometown, family restaurant.

We started coming to Stag & Doe about a month ago. Loved it so much that we started coming 2-3 times a week. However, today the food was not up to par. We order the lasagna that we have had several times before, today was burnt and dry. Pizza again ordered several times before, today burnt. We explained to the waitress, and she had the owner come over. He was dismissive and arrogant towards our concerns, proceeded to dig in the Lasagna, and said it looked fine. Also said that pizzas always look like this.

Kids wanted pizza for New Years Eve dinner. I have never ate from here, but my husband did growing up as he knew the owner at the time. Food he said was always good.
We ordered 6 pizzas. Well, needless to say my husband said the pizza was ok but sure is not what is was growing up. Frozen pizza put in oven would of been just as good. KIDS, did not like it. Spent 78.00, now down the drain to replace with Papa John’s. MUCH BETTER! FRESH HOT, AND CHEAPER. We will not return to stag and doe. Maybe just a bad night.
Pizza extra thin. NO FLAVOR. Pizza size Large, appears to be a small.
Just an overall bad experience. With prices as high as they are, we just through money down the drain.

We had high hopes for this place, going in. We were very underwhelmed. Dinner menu is different from the lunch menu we saw online. You can’t get a burger or sandwich of any variety for dinner. Settled for a chicken tender plate, like I was 12 years old again. They were ok… fries were decent, and not fresh. Also got a small pizza. It tasted like it came from the freezer of a gas station and threw in a toaster oven. Overall, the food was edible, but we probably won’t be back. We really wanted to like this place, because there has to be a reason they’ve been in business for as long as they have. I’m just not seeing it.

A gem in China Grove, I was very pleasantly surprised after all the other disappointments in the area.
I had the lasagna with soup and salad it was delicious and fresh. Service was friendly and attentive.
I will be visiting again to try more menu items. If you’re traveling through or a resident of China Grove I would definitely recommend Stag and Doe over any other eatery in the area.

One of the worst meals ever. Chicken was rubber and flavorless and then they poured a bottle of bbq sauce on it. Nothing homemade. The salad had wilted lettuce and 2 tiny tomatoes the size of olives. Canned beans that they didn’t even add any brown sugar or seasoning to. We barely ate our food and we are not picky eaters. All of it tasted like it came from a can or the freezer with no seasoning
