Social Profile:

The Landmark in Chester has been a part of Mississippi River history and lore since it was built in 1830. Many early leaders of Illinois passed by or stopped in, even a couple of famous writers known as Mark Twain (Samuel Clemmons) and Charles Dickens. As you might expect, she has her own list of ghost stories too. After being closed for eight years, an extensive renovation of the building was begun in 2017, and in 2018 the St. Nicholas Brewing Company opened the St. Nicholas Landmark as its second brewpub. Visitors today can enjoy great St. Nicholas Craft Beer, unique pub fare and entrees, and a one of a kind experience in this historic building on the banks of the Mississippi River.

The only reason I gave it an overall three stars is because the pizza was very disappointing. I expected a delicious bar pizza, but it was not appetizing at all.

On a good note, the appetizer was delicious. The waitress was very sweet and the atmosphere was super fun. I totally enjoyed the trains that went by and watching them through the antique windows. Also loved the stained glass window and all of the fun art around the room.

We got seated pretty quickly. Our waiter took our order and brought our drinks in no time but we had to wait longer than expected for our meals. The waiter was friendly and checked on us a few times and offered drinks to go. I got the peach bourbon mahi and my husband got the southwestern salad. My mahi came with rice and salad. It was great. My husband didn’t like the chicken that much, it was dry. The place is beautiful with a view of the Mississippi River. Overall a great experience

Fantastic discovery while we were passing through Chester on our way to Missouri on a Sunday afternoon: I was a bit thrown off by a “landmark” showing up when I was trying to find somewhere nearby to eat, but it’s a charming restaurant overlooking the river. We had the Southern Sweetness pizza, but added on bacon crumbles, and the result was amazing! We also enjoyed the stuffed banana peppers. A couple of excellent guitarists were playing acoustic oldies from the 1960s in the main room; even though it was fairly busy, the servers were friendly and helpful and the food came out surprisingly quickly once we ordered. Even if it hadn’t been fast, it was an enjoyable place to take a break from the road, with lots of interesting eye-catching details and a wonderful view of the river. To be sure, the next time we pass through Chester, we’ll have to make a point of stopping by here again!

We ate at the Landmark on New Year’s Eve. Food was great, as was the excellent service by McKayla. She was delightful.
We dined there again with friends on Saturday evening, January 17. AGAIN, great food and Lana waited on us with patience and charm. She was great, knowledgeable and attentive.
It’s so good to have you back!

The service was good—staff were attentive and polite—but unfortunately the food was a big disappointment. The dishes were bland and not worth the price. I paid $26 for two tiny bites of fish, each about the size of my pinky, and $25 for a piece of chicken that was barely half the size of my palm. For those prices, I expected much better flavor and portion sizes. Overall, the service was the highlight, but the food and value did not meet expectations.

We were at the Landmark several times last week. Food was excellent and service was wonderful. All the servers, Jamie, Kristin, Natalie and Maggie were delightful. They were personable, outgoing and answered our questions. We are so pleased with our St Nick Landmark.

Had a buffalo sandwich and fries and the food was good. Was disappointed that they didn’t have any Non alcoholic beers but only a soda option. Service was ok but she didn’t offer any extra napkins with a messy sandwich and I only had the one the silverware was rolled in. The butter knife that I was given also looked to have a rust spot on the blade end.

I went there a few nights ago, not very busy. I sat at a table for 18 minutes & still no waitress. The waitresses were busy socializing at the bar with customers. I got up and started leaving when a waitress literally ran over with a menu! I will never come back! She couldn’t have been 16 years old, no excuse though

The mahi was perfect! Had it grilled without the sauce perfectly cooked. Lana, our server, was attentive, friendly and efficient. A five.star server?
