Popped in for a quick drink with the neighbor, and this is truly a neighborhood Irish pub. The menu leans on Irish food staples, and while I’ve had better salmon and toast as a starter, the short rib sandwich had an excellent braised short rib that fell apart in the mouth, delicious, the bread didn’t hold up much (maybe could have used a garlic or horseradish aioli?), and the shoestring fries were ok, definitely needed the ketchup.

Seating at the bar was a bit crowded. Jimmy the bartender was great in service but busy, but the seat I had was right behind the taps so I didn’t have much space for the plate of food — recommend getting a table next time or watch where you want to sit – plenty of space for a glass of beer, but not for a plate. The half plate of wings – a lot of garlic parm sauce on top, and while not the best wings (lacked any crisp), the sauce was nice and thick and heavy – albeit salty, but that’s ok for wings. The sauce there actually did the fries good.

Street or muni parking, close to the train station. There was a server with fresh seafood at the front.

OMG! So close to me, and I didn’t even know about this place! Lovely bar—I enjoyed the food. The service is great. The wings are delicious and come in a larger portion than usual. The short rib sandwich is absolutely amazing! I highly recommend it. Nice environment—next to the bar is a kid-friendly restaurant. Perfect place to share a beer with friends and family!

The atmosphere is nice, the service is great and the food is good. I recommend the American burger. The drinks are well made as well. On a side note, the town is really cool to walk thru during the day & at night. It looks beautiful at night.

For those who like American-style Irish pubs, this place is for you. A family-owned establishment, owner Jimmy makes every feel welcome and appreciated. St. James Gate always has a friendly atmosphere.

Seating options are sufficient, especially with the addition of their outdoor area a few years back: it makes for a nice, relaxed atmosphere where we’ve taken the kids a few times. Service is never rushed, very patient and capable, whether at the bar or a table.

St. James Gate is a Maplewood mainstay, and one of the reasons I fell in love with the town.

Celebrated St. Patrick’s Day here. Fun atmosphere! Food was great! I had the Reuben Sandwich. Guinness was awesome. Only draw back…no drink specials for holiday. I will be returning however, due to the authenic Irish Pub feel. Looking forward to more SHENANIGANS!

Ordered food to go. It was okay. Short rib sandwich on the dry side. Seemed like a big hunk of meat that needs the au jus ti make it edible. The wings were better imo. Might be better in person.

Lovely little Irish pub. Very authentic feel, and I’m from Ireland! Great bartender, think his name was Patrick. Good shepherds pie and Brussels sprouts salad.

I have never had a good experience within the bar, the bartender added a tip onto the one that was left to him and that tip was a reflection of his drunk service that he provided. He was completely wasted couldn’t even stand up serving and made rude comments towards the drinks that were requested. This place has gone downhill so much and would change a lot if they just removed the shitty/rude drunk bartender. Not only that there was a female waiting at the bar for this man and she rudely kept coming over to our table stating we need to leave, right when we received our drinks. What kind of establishment is this? Another employee told us it was no issue sitting here having our drinks that we just paid for. They need a huge revamp/hire different staff.

Jim made the bar welcoming and it is easy to tell he enjoys being there. The Gaelic fries are definitely something to go back for. They have a great selection on tap.

SCAM! Ordered Irish breakfast and came out with toasted sweet Italian Christmas panetonne bread who does that? No english style bacon just toasted ham, no mushrooms and no blood sausage at all. The beans were watery and not like cooked in creamy tomatoe sauce. I lived in Ireland so I know my Irish breakfast. AVOID!
