This was such a waste of $25, and honestly would appreciate a refund, as the food was not good at all.
The dosa shell, crepe, is the only thing I liked here, so thus they get 1 star. I do realize that I was there closer to 9:30pm, and closing time was around the corner, however, I’m still paying the same amount of money as the customer who comes at 1pm.
The potato inside the dosa wasn’t fresh, it was very watery, not like a firm mashed potato that is usually served inside a dosa. The coconut Chutney had a bitter aftertaste, while the ginger Chutney was strong, and over powering, and definitely not traditionally served with South Indian Dosa.
The Sambhar (Lentil soup) was thick, and killed with salt, it was absolutely inedible, and I did take it back to the guy behind the counter, who offered to make me another one, but I was so turned off, and refused.
Next is the Pani Puri, sorry excuse for this item even being called that. In perspective, a box of 50 pieces of the shells cost about $8, and here you are charged $8.49+tax for 6 pieces, rip off. On top of that the potatoes were HOT, and watery, there was waaay too much Tamarind, so it was very sour, and looked dark brown, and the onions which accompanied it smelled like they were sitting out all day, like someone’s arm pit after working in the summer sun, straight up B.O.
The two “Panis”(water) that were served were disgusting, the food color in the green one which tasted like there was cucumber juice in it, had no salt, chaat masala, seasoning, and the reddish one was a diabetic’s worst nightmare, doused with straight syrup. There was no balance of flavor, in this dish, and above all, the shells were on the verge of being stale, as they lacked a crisp crunch.
I wish I had spoken up before I left this restaurant, to show them how these dishes are made, if they are interested in learning. Never going back here again, and I do hope to get a refund.
The staff is super courteous, and the owner even takes the time to greet guests and offer recommendations. Trust me, the taste and quality are worth every penny. With its traditional decor and comfortable seating.
The quality of food is good, service is good, atmosphere is good.
The dosas were crispy, the idlis were super soft, and the flavors felt comforting and well balanced. Portions are good and prices are reasonable too.
Overall, a great spot in San Jose for simple, delicious Indian food. Will definitely be coming back! ️
