Take Back Roads
UPDATE: I hate to have to downgrade a review, especially so for a local business. But we’ve had a couple bad experiences at Spring Street, and at this point, it’s about 50/50 great experiences vs bad experiences. We’ve had several extraordinarily long waits for food (even considering that the food is handmade – one time it was nearly an hour!), unpleasant service experiences, etc. Never had an issue with food or quality, just service and wait times. On our most recent visit, we arrived and sat at 11:01AM and were told that we can only order lunch, not breakfast – so we got up and left. It’s actually disappointing to have to post this, because I loved Spring Street when I first tried it. It’s been 50/50 since then.
Also – the waffle iron broke and the owner chose not to replace it, so my favorite breakfast, the one in the picture, isn’t even available anymore.

An absolute gem for breakfast. The coffee is excellent. The food is freshly made by hand, so while it takes a little longer than normal, is most assuredly worth the wait. This place is phenomenal – the only downside is that they aren’t open later into the day so we could stop up some time for a later meal! (we live in Pittsburgh)
My meal is the one in the picture: Chicken & Waffles with hollandaise sauce and a poached egg, and a Cafe Americano. My wife had the waffle with sausage, egg, and gravy – also excellent. The “savory” waffles (as titled on the menu) are made with potato and flour, so they are perfect for the more savory/hearty breakfasts!

Absolutely outstanding food and coffee. Always fresh and cooked perfectly. They locally source all their stuff which is great, and the atmosphere is wonderful. Service is always friendly.

In my experience, this is a great place to sit with a friend and drink coffee, warm or cold-brew that will wake you up to both simple and elaborate dishes that are always perfect. It is always a better day when I walk through these doors 🙂

Love, love, love this place!!! We wanted to try their new weekend “brunch” menu… so glad we went! Our omelets were delicious!!! The food is all made from scratch, so while it may take a little bit longer to be served – the wait is WELL worth it! In the mean time, we sipped our freshly made coffee and enjoyed the quaint atmosphere. All of the servers and employees were so pleasant and worked hard to meet the needs of all customers. Do yourself a favor and stop by!!!

I love the food and the atmosphere at Spring Street. They have guest wifi. The waitress kindly offered to reheat my sandwich. My one complaint: I waited quite a while for a waitress to come to my table when I first arrived. I will definitely go there again though. The bakery items are great if you aren’t on a diet like me.

Stopped in twice to the new location and loved it both times.
I like the new way of being seated and someone coming to wait at your table.
I love the seating in the front windows.
Alicia Flood was our waitress and could not have been more friendly and helpful.

Really nice place! I had creme brulee french. First time having creme brulee it was great. Definitely a different kind of texture but great taste. Nice staff. Only thing I’d like to see added is a pancake/French combo breakfast with eggs, meat, potatoes, and toast.

Atmosphere is wonderful, very quaint, inviting, and tranquil. The service is very slow, absolutely did not feel rushed, however, it took our waitress forever to take our order, once we ate we waited an additional 20 minutes for a check. Mangy there were two other tables in there eating. The sauteed mushrooms and onions in my veggie omelette had so much grease, there was a puddle of grease on my plate when I had finished eating.

We had my son’s first birthday party here and everything was wonderful. The room in the back was set up nicely and the staff were very nice and accommodating. We ordered the cake from tin man sweets and it was excellent. We love this place!
