Spotted Salamander is one of the finest, most charming restaurants in Columbia. It manages to feel both comfortable and up-scale. The place a lovely ‘bistro’ vibe of a Southern Kitchen and comfortably elevates it. I’ve had both meals and attended special events (including a fantastic wildlife fundraiser) and I’ve always walked away with a few important notes – as an upscale place, I’ve never left hungry, I’ve never had a bad meal, the staff (and owner) are lovely people, and I find myself curious to try even dishes that I’d normally lean away from!

Such a cute lunch spot with a cozy, inviting atmosphere. They have a very creative menu with fun takes on Southern cuisine. Must get the Daily Deviled Egg Special!!! Seriously the best deviled eggs I’ve ever had. I also got the Tomato Pie Mac & Cheese. So much flavor and well-seasoned. That crust was delightful. I really wish I had saved room for dessert…. so many delicious options. Definitely a must-visit in Columbia!

To be honest, I was a little disappointed. We should have went earlier because by the time we got there for lunch (1:30) they were out of the deviled egg special and Brussels sprouts so I didn’t have a chance to get the small bites that I wanted. I got the tomato soup and it was flavorless. My burger was dried out and the dessert was too rich for me. It was my 2nd time visiting and it was very different from the first time I tried this place a few years ago. Since my initial visit, they have added a house to supply the over flow business. Unfortunately, the atmosphere is vastly different from the main room. It’s a bit too quiet there, while the first is more vibrant.

A local favorite! The food is always fresh with exploding flavor combinations. Jessica and her staff do an incredible job at making each customer feel like in-home guest. I love this cafe!

Chicken Pecan Salad on wheat wrap with BLT pasta. The wrap was good. Not particularly fond of the pasta. Plenty of other sides to choose from. We sat on the covered front porch. Beautiful day!

My first time here. It is a casual lunch spot located in a beautiful street in downtown Columbia. I ate a chicken sandwich that without a doubt was the best I probably ever had. This is not a regular lunch spot. It is a high quality and tasty experience. The homemade sangria was delicious .

Their food is always on point. No complaints from me at all. I ordered the wrap and the BLT pasta salad, which is my favorite.

Everything that we have tried is greatness. The different flavors and textures are like invitations to try something new each time – which is good since their menu changes daily! Open for work week lunch, Tues is fried chicken sandwich day, while Fri is burger day. Their BLT pasta is yummy and the deviled eggs are “the best I’ve ever had”. Cute decor, free street parking, and don’t forget about dessert.

It’s a really lovely place, comfortable but classy atmosphere, and service was fantastic. And I think the food is very good, but I wasn’t blown off my feet by what I ate, so it’s an expectation vs. reality thing for me that lost that star. My sangria was a bit watered down, to start. Then the pimento cheese, which was my real goal for the meal, doesn’t have any pimentos! It’s just finely shredded cheese and mayo and probably some spices. It was good, but it wasn’t great. I had it on my list to try some really good SC pimento cheese while I was in town, and this place was put forward as a good option, and I just wasn’t impressed. My main was a fried fish sandwich, which was very good all around, but nothing groundbreaking, it was mainly just a quality piece of fish.

If you are in Columbia you HAVE to eat here!!! The food is incredible, the quality is consistent, and the variety makes it that much better. I think the truest testament to the food is how incredible the tomato sandwiches in the summer are. It is a true challenge to make the simple extraordinary and memorable but they do it everytime! I cannot replicate it no matter how hard I try. Their menu rotates with specials and they are always delicious. Highly recommend the deviled eggs and pimento cheese as well. Cannot rave about this place enough!!
