PROS: Food was fantastic! We had the chili dog and prime rib sandwich. Onion rings were on point and even my picky eaters couldn’t get enough of the potato salad.
CONS: It took 20 minutes to get our order taken after sitting down and another almost hour to get our order. The staff was very nice but if you aren’t prepared for an hour and a half plus dining experience this is not the stop to go.
OVERALL: The historical factor with the quality of taste of food makes this a worth while stop on your high country adventure.

I use to love this place, it was a staple when I was a kid but unfortunately the food quality has gone way down. It use to be an amazing breakfast/lunch place but now it has been reduced to a restaurant on par with or lower quality than Denny’s.
On my last visit (12/31/2025) I ordered a Tri Tip sandwich, what I got was a French dip with paper thin flavorless roast beef and old sourdough bread that tasted like it was left out for a few days.
On top of the reduced food quality we were served by Amy T, an extremely rude and abrasive server. When we sat down she walked over and cut our conversation off with “Hey! Tell me your drinks” when it came to our food order my wife ordered a chicken sandwich with just the chicken and mayo on the sandwich and she basically scoffed at my wife saying “ohh so dry!?” Then muttered something about “better not hear any complaints” as she walked away. When the food arrived my wife and I were talking again and she pushed my shoulder and said “comin in!” As she shoved my plate in front of me. Aside from that she was pretty much absent the entire time we were there only one check in at the end to give us our bill.
Also not related to our experience an older gentleman walked in asking if they had any bar stool seating since he was alone and she basically yelled at him saying “no hunny this isn’t a bar” he attempted to explain that he just wanted individual seating and a table would be fine, but before he could finish she cut him off and said “nope! No this isn’t a bar, there is one up the street and waived him off. Needless to say he left and the restaurant lost business.
I know times are tough, the server could have been having a bad day etc…but I’d hate to see this place go out of business. Cutting food quality and hiring whoever will work is the fastest way for a restaurant to file bankruptcy. Also I hope Amy doesn’t get fired but she 10000% needs some strict customer service training and needs to know that touching people and yelling at customers is unacceptable behavior.

We stopped at lunch time and it was very busy so a bit of a wait to order but the wait staff was very nice and apologetic. They made sure we had coffee and water quickly. The food came out pretty quick once we order. Everything was delicious and well made, try the country fried steak, corned beef hash, and biscuits. We will absolutely be returning.

Great service, quick with great food. Prime rib is priced right about 12oz. Comes with a big salad, great crispy vegetables, potatoes (I had baked loaded) and a roll. Horseradish sauce is straight (hot but good) and creamy (medium heat), served with a good cup of au jus. Pies are incredible, for dessert.

Server was awesome A+. Food was another story. The steak i got was a grilled chunk of gristle and the shrimp were nothing more that’ll store bought and it cost almost $44 with the drink. Atmosphere was cool and chill. Won’t eat there again simply because of the food quality.

First time eating dinner here. I had the chopped steak with baked potato and zucchini and squash. The chopped steak was delicious. The baked potato, squash and zucchini were over cooked.
The atmosphere was like a local diner.
Service was good.

Wait time was 30 mins very unorganized and the seating was fine table dirty. Waited about another 20 for food and it was not good. Potatoes dry no seasoning biscuit was burned eggs way to runny. The building looked nice and probably only think I liked

It’s the lodge, nice atmosphere, they’re always busy so you should expect services to be a bit slow. Like all places inside of any amusement park the prices are on the high side but the quality isn’t bad.

Love this place so we visit it once a month when we come to Placerville all the way from Fresno! They have good home cooked American meals that are overly large! The scenery with all the pines and snow is beautiful! During the summer they have a beautiful outdoor patio full of plants to dine in. The service is great and everyone is friendly!

Good food for decent prices. I had the prime rib melt, and it was amazing. Staff had good communication. Plenty of parking. Enough stuff on the kids menu that picky eaters should be able to find something.
