They wanted to recreate a northern hunting lodge atmosphere with fresh, hand-packed burgers, chili, catfish and cold beer. The business and menu have since expanded with the purchase of the Gerst Haus (German-American restaurant) in 1988, the opening of Sportsman’s Grille in the Village in 1991 and opening of Sportsman’s Lodge in 2000. Jim and Jerry’s wives, children and sons-in law are now involved in the businesses,

Ordered a grilled chicken breast. The moment they brought it out, I could tell that it was a very poor quality of meat (I honestly get a better quality of meat at Kroger).
The breast was very thin and flat. Extremely dry, bit into a piece of fat and it was extremely over cooked. Sadly, I’ve had better chicken at fast food restaurants like Raising Canes.
I asked if they could try again without overcooking it. No luck, second time around, it still came back overcooked, still flat and bland and still very low quality of meat.
For $23.00 it did not even come with a small salad unless I wanted to pay an additional $7.00.
Service was slow as well.
Then ordered a simple dessert thinking surely they can’t mess this up. Wrong again.
It was a brownie with ice cream. Brownie was hard as a rock and served in an odd shaped glass, which made it difficult to eat.
I LOVE the atmosphere but unfortunately, we will never return due to the subpar quality of their food, small portions versus price, slow service and a chef that apparently does not know how to cook. Please do better.
Long wait despite calling ahead and then not being super busy, though there were some big parties.
Long wait for drinks at the bar as there was only 1 bar tender despite it being the weekend before New Year’s in Nashville.
Once seated we let the waiter know we had to be out in an hour and fifteen due to other reservations. He said he could make it happen. The table was crazy dark. Needed flashlights to see the menu.
We ordered drinks and dinners. Table of 8. No special orders other than one burger to have “no onions, no tomatoes.”
The food came out Lightening fast. The orders were all hot, fresh and correct except there were “onions” on the burger.
The ribs and chicken combo were tender oven baked ribs with a splash of bottled bbq sauce and a grilled chicken breast with bottled bourbon bbq sauce. As fine as Applebees.
The ribeye sandwich was the grizzliest piece of ribeye ever ribeyed. It was cooked fine and the French fries were good.
The bourbon salmon may be the best item on the menu.
The bbq sandwich is more than adequate and served on toast.
The chicken tendies were acceptable but under seasoned as compared to Cains!
While ordering, ordered cocktails in addition to soft drinks. The food was out before the bar drinks.
Service was excellent and exceeded expectations given the wait and circumstances.
Will return, but not when you have after dinner obligations.
A slow, relaxed attitude will
Make this a solid 4 star experience.
Beautiful place, inside and out, with a Lodge like feel. Huge log beams, dark interior and a long wooden bar made me feel like I was in a mountain home.
Burger was killer, juicy and well made, great fries and super friendly service made my visit awesome.
Here’s the Breakdown:
Absolutely beautiful in and out +1 star; great burger +1 star; great fries +1 star; friendly service +1 star; tranquil place to eat lunch +1 star.
I will go back.
