Wow! I loved everything we ordered, especially the picked fish soup and sweet and sour pork. Service was sweet and attentive. Our order came out pretty quickly. Me and my husband spent about 90 minutes enjoying our food and the hot jasmine tea. Such a vibe! I really wanted to try the iced jelly dessert but it was sold out : ( Overall, we were both very pleased with the food and service here. I’ll definitely come back to try other items on the menu.

I’m so happy this place finally opened! We went today with a lot of excitement and were incredibly impressed with everything. The food was even better than my expectations, and the service was truly top-notch. From the moment we walked in, the staff treated us with such warmth and care, and they were very fast and attentive.
I was especially satisfied to see the restaurant filled with Asian customers when we walked in—to me, that’s always the best sign that the food is authentic and high-quality!
I also love the interior design; the space is large, brand new, and very clean. It’s a comfortable atmosphere where you can actually enjoy your meal without feeling rushed. Plus, a huge bonus is that there is plenty of parking, which makes the whole experience stress-free. I honestly think this is the best Chinese restaurant in St. Louis. Highly recommended for everyone!

The staff is friendly, portion size is good, quality is great. I found the setting quite pleasant and unique. Not the traditional seating you’d find at a restaurant as they’re bench seats. But it fits really well for what theyre trying to achieve.

Hunan Cured Pork Fried Rice – The most flavorful, yet subtle pork I’ve ever tasted. No overly strong saltiness. The fattiness on some pieces weren’t a problem and added more to it. Egg, onion, and sliced green pepper added to it.

Beef Wrap – An appetizer. From the picture alone, I saw greens and beef. Wasn’t sure if I would even like it but was feeling adventurous with it. Sounds silly I’m sure. It was extremely refreshing. I’m glad that I saved a couple pieces for after the meal. My guess is arugula, cucumber, green onion, beef and some unique house sauce that isn’t overpowering the ingredients. (Driving home, the lingering flavors of this is enough to brighten the day)

Also got a pleasant welcome and good bye.

The restaurant is clean and well decorated in a traditional Chinese style. The service is really good, the food is very authentic. We really enjoy it. The portion of each dish is not very generous.

We came to this Hunan cuisine restaurant on Sunday night. It wasn’t too busy. We were seated right away without waiting or reservation. The restaurant was clean and had an old timer Chinese decor. The staff were friendly and attentive. We ordered 2 dishes and both were delicious. Even though the rice was cold, the overall experience was positive. The price was reasonable.

Currently, Spicy Chef is all of the rage in town when it comes to Chinese cuisine, so naturally, I have to try it. They serve Hunan style stir fried, with Sichuan’s numbing spice (Mala), Hunan’s heat, and Guizhou’s sour kick. I don’t think it’s that spicy. The level of hot is less than habanero so if you can handle habanero, you can handle this. But this is a different kind of spicy. It’s numbing to the mouth with a hint of sweet and sour to it. The result is one deliciousness attacking all of your taste buds. It’s sooooooo good.
They are well known for their chili oil and coin shaped eggs, so I got the chicken in chili oil, Yomgzhou coin shaped eggs and stir fried beef in nine leaf chili. Everything was excellent. Highly recommended!
I thought the portions of the entrees were generous. It’s a little pricey ..approx $17-$20 on average for a main dish, and $10 for appetizer. However, if you get two entrees for two, you will be full and have leftover for another meal.
I recommend to come for lunch before noon, and before 6 for dinner, or you will have a long wait line.

Stopped by Chef Spicy on Sunday afternoon and was really impressed by this newer spot. I’ll definitely be returning.

The pickled fish soup was the standout — deeply savory, gently sour, and comforting without being heavy. Tender fish, slippery glass noodles, and a clean, warming broth that keeps you going back for just one more spoon. The mapo tofu brought proper heat and that numbing chile oil tingle, balanced by silky tofu and plenty of aroma — bold but not reckless.

We also ordered the beef wraps, which were simple and satisfying, filled with tender meat, fresh herbs, and cucumber — very craveable. Even the stir-fried dishes felt thoughtful, with good wok flavor, crisp vegetables, and seasoning that didn’t blur together.

The room is cozy, the menu is deep, and the food feels cooked with intention. Service was attentive and friendly. If you’re in the mood for something warming, spicy, and genuinely comforting, this is the move.

Come hungry and order family-style — it’s delicious.

Food tasted very authentic to Hunan cuisine. Even though it took a little while for everything to get to the table service was super friendly. Plenty of food portion wise.

We stopped by spicy chef on MLK day to check out the new place and really enjoyed ourselves! We got to try a variety of dishes including the pickled cabbage fish, mao’s hong shao pork, eggplant, and Hunan fried rice with meat. The dishes were very flavorful and the stir fried dishes had a nice kick to them. Portion sizes were very adequate and we were all pleasantly full at the end. The place itself is spacious and has ample seating, even for larger parties. Service was a little slow, but seeing as they just opened and are quite busy I figure it’s just growing pains. I look forward to coming back and trying more dishes!
