I’m not even sure where to begin. The food was poor in many ways.
The flavour was not simply bad, I venture to say it was downright offensive.
There were four of us dinning, two Canadian born, and two Indian born. The food was extremely unsatisfactory for all of us.
Among us, we ordered two non-veg/meat thali, one veg thali, and one chicken Biryani.
The rice was flavourless, soggy, and quite clearly had been cooked previously and reheated.
All the sauces/gravy were somehow the same base, no matter the dish. They lacked flavourful spices, and to make it spicier it seems that sprinkled on chilli powder. This was not a pleasant heat for anyone at the table. Tomato heavy and bland, one dimensional sauces with an artificial and cheap flavour.

Worst of all, the chicken Biryani, if we can even call it that, was raw—the rice had clearly been precooked and undercooked chicken had been added, along with, inexplicably tomato paste. When we politely told the server the chicken was undercooked, she didn’t seem to know what to do with this information. We ended up paying full price and leaving more than half the undercooked chicken.

We are typically a very easy going group, and don’t like wasting food, but most of it was inedible, not to mention unpalatable. We understand it’s a small restaurant in a plaza, yet somehow it far undershot our expectations.

We had ordered four chai, but upon receiving the meal three of us decided it wasn’t worth trying, one did and it was burnt, foamy and tasted of licorice.

In short, I would not recommend this location. Overpriced for the terrible food quality. We are beyond disappointed.

I typically make my Indian Food at home but figured I’d give this place a go. Very very flavourful. Indian Spicy level is really hot but so good. I could handle it but will likely get a lesser spice level next time so I can savour it more. The chicken is real breast which I love. I’ve never been a fan of thighs so this was very much a win. Prices are great; if you get the Thali you can get 3 different small dishes which is a great way to try different things for only $16! Will be back regularly!

Both locations of Spicy Affairs is incredible. We order from them often. Best Indian cuisine in the Durham region! We ordered for our staff xmas lunch and they already had a big order to prepare at the same time we needed ours (we’d called as soon as they opened same day) and they still had it ready for us on time! A few of my staff are here new from India and they all said today it’s also the very best Indian Cuisine they’ve had so far in Durham. HIGHLY recommend!
