The staff great me upon entry. The place was clean and inviting. I ordered the Pineapple Coconut Curry bowl with grilled salmon. I added a couple additional veggies that were to my liking. The freshness and quality were top of the line. The portion size was really good. The price was a little high in my opinion. $12 for the bowl and $6 for the protein. That was $18 before adding a drink, however this was restaurant quality food at a fast food spot so I will say the price is worth it. The $5 Tropical Fruit Punch was amazing. I wish I lived closer to visit more often!

Flavorful, custom made bowl with tasty ingredients. My bowl consisted of the following: jollof rice and pineapple coconut rice, sofrito and spicy tomato sauce, bbq chickpeas, mango salsa, charred okra and broccoli and the citrus and jerk vinaigrettes on the side. Everything that was platted onto the bowl was deliciously tasteful. The spices were there! I actually preferred the jerk vinaigrette dressing over the citrus vinaigrette, but honestly, the bowl is flavorful enough alone that you could do without the dressing. The service was quick and efficient. The associates greeted me upon walking in and made sure that I was taken cared of. It was a great experience and I will definitely check in again to try more of their tasty foods.

Three days in a row and I couldn’t wait to post a review on this awesome establishment right here! I forgot to post my first two bowls but threes a charm!! Everything they’ve said about this place about it being “flavorful, hardy, delicious, soul comforting & everything else great, they did not lie and Spiced Black did not disappoint at all! My bowl was Jollf rice, greens, sweet potatoes, cabbage, plantain, grilled chicken & shrimp, corn & onion, mango salsa, the jerk vinegar and spicy tomato sauce! I feel like I’m missing something but EVERYTHING WAS FREAKIN AMAZING!! You can really taste the love in this food and I’m so glad I finally got to try them out! Will definitely be coming back for more! Definitely a great spot!!

Spiced and smoky!
The food here was seasoned to perfection with a delicious smoky kick—exactly what I needed after a long day at work. I’ll admit I was a little skeptical when my fiancé pulled up because I’m not a fan of my food mixing too much, but the staff happily gave me my greens on the side, which I really appreciated.
My only regret? Not trying even more dishes! I’ll definitely be back.
What we tried:
Red rice w/ Étouffée sauce — 10/10!!!
Grilled chicken — solid 8/10
Grilled shrimp — solid 8/10
Plantains — 8/10
Collard greens — 8/10 (fiancé: 7/10)
Curry cabbage — 7/10
Jollof rice w/ sofritto sauce — 8.5/10 (fiancé: 9/10)
BBQ chickpeas — 6.5/10 (fiancé: 7/10)
Salmon — 5.5/10
My only little recommendation would be a “fussy eaters box” with compartments for those of us who like our items separate—but that’s totally personal preference. I really love their quick counter-service style and the overall vibe.
Highly recommend checking it out! ️✨

I had Southern BBQ bowl. Rice was dry and croutons were so old and soggy but overall I enjoyed the food and their juice. Had sweet potato cake and banana cake for dessert. I’d pick sweet potato cake for me being savory side than sweet side. I wouldn’t mind giving it another try next time I’m in DC.

This restaurant is amazing! The food was excellent and the costumer service was too. An employee walked me through the menu when I told him it was my first time there, he also let me try and few options to see what I liked. Everything tasted great! They have something for everyone including Vegetarians and Vegans. Check them out for yourself, you won’t be disappointed!

Conceptually unique! I never thought I’d come across a place like this. Usually with places like this, you have to try it a second time to figure out what is best to you. However, I didn’t experience that.
I had a modified BBQ Southern Bowl and I would re-order it again in a heartbeat. The bowl did look a bit iffy but all the flavors were coming together beautifully. I could do without the cornbread croutons.
This place is definitely not something I would get daily or even weekly as I felt like I’d become unhealthy if I did.
Let’s hope the next time I go is just as good as the first!

Wow! Very much needed in our neighborhood We definitely needed something that was quick, but also have a balance between having healthy options that’s still super flavorful and comforting. I really enjoyed my bowl. I got a salmon bowl with jollof rice, and it was really really good. The ambience was clean and approachable. The service was really great. I was greeted upon my arrival. They were also able to assist and direct me with the menu being as though that was my first time. I will definitely be coming back regularly!!

I finally got around to trying Spiced Black, and I was mostly disappointed. I created my own bowl, and it didn’t turn out very good. I ended up throwing away more than half, which is unusual for me because I hate wasting food. Maybe I need to try one of the premade bowls. I’m not sure. I’ll return if I’m in the area, but I’m not rushing back. I paid $23 for a bowl, which felt extremely expensive. That said, the service was excellent. The employees were extremely nice!

I ordered online through their website for pickup and the whole process was smooth from start to finish. Plenty of parking out front and my order was ready in less than 5 minutes. All I had to do was show my receipt at the counter, and even with a steady lunch crowd, the handoff was seamless.
I went with the Spicy Tomato Jollof Bowl with half chicken and half shrimp plus a Kale Lemonade. The proteins were the star—juicy chicken breast and shrimp that had that perfect char and smoky flavor you want. The toppings brought great contrast: fresh veggies, tangy pickled habanero, and a mix of textures that kept each bite interesting.
Where it fell short for me was the rice. It was overcooked and a little mushy, and the spicy tomato sauce didn’t carry as much flavor as the name promised. I found myself wishing for just a touch more seasoning to tie everything together. The upside? The portion was generous, and if you like your food on the lighter, “healthy-forward” side, you’ll probably appreciate it as is.
The Kale Lemonade—bright, refreshing, and not overly sweet. It balanced out the meal perfectly.
Overall, there’s a lot to like here. The proteins and drink shined, the service was quick, and the concept of “healthy heritage cooking” feels unique in the area. If they dial up the flavor in the rice, this would be a go-to spot for me.
