We recently visited Creston Iowa as we were camping at Green Valley state park. We looked at reviews for restaurants in the area and the reviews for Spencer’s Chop House were not good. Complaints were made about service, quality of food,cleanliness of the restaurant, time waiting. etc. We elected to go to a different restaurant, but after talking with our neighbors in the campground who told us that they make a point of going to the chop house whenever they’re in town we elected to give it a try. It was very good. Food was delicious, service fantastic, atmosphere/decor quaint and charming. We were very pleased and will return if we get back to town!!

The exterior of the building was very plain but the inside and atmosphere was fantastic. Our server was on point and if youre in the mood for steak, the 16oz ribeye absolutely slaps!
10/10 would eat here again. Might make a road trip for it.

Incredibly understaffed. Waited 37 minutes just to get a drink. Second one was 30 minutes. Potato soup tasted burnt. We should have left, but it was our anniversary . Lacked ingredients for drinks on their drink menu. Steak was ok. Not great. Spent a lot of money for a lousy experience. They knew it sucked and didn’t try to make it right. Was happy to leave.

If you like using a flash light to look at the menu then this is the place for you. They do have room for large groups. The food was tasteless and the picture shows my medium well prime rib after asking for it to be cooked longer still not cooked even close to medium well. The only reason there is as much gone is because the table all took bites to confirm that it was tasteless and far from tender. My husband’s chicken did not have any flavor either. The baked potato was also over cooked and could have been better. The waitress who knew I wanted my prime rib to be more on the well side showed no concern even seeing that I chose not to eat a $26 piece of meat.

Had reservations for 6:30 finally got our order taken at 7:00 and food didnt get there till 7:45. Took half an hour to get the bottle of beer I ordered and our food was cold when we got it. This was about the 4th chance we have given this place and if it wasn’t my brother birthday we wouldnt have gone. Get some actual staff in there and a cook who can at least no burn the toast that comes with the cold Alfredo.

Most food is good but I don’t understand why the green beans taste so odd like someone put brown sugar in them. Green beans aren’t suppose to be sweet this is the Midwest of the united states of America. Steak is really good and onion rings aren’t greasy at least.

This was my wife & mines first time at Spencer’s Chophouse & Tavern. We were greeted with a friendly smile and seated right away. Our waitress was pleasant and took our drink order and returned with our drinks right away. Our food order was taken shortly after, when we were ready, and we received our food in a timely manner. My soup, beef stroganoff, was a tasty starter. I had the 16oz Italian Ribeye. My steak was easily the full 16oz and cooked perfectly. The fries were a delicious side. I did indulge and order a piece of the oatmeal pie. I would recommend saving room for this pie; it was amazing.
The atmosphere was warm and inviting. I appreciated that the music was at a volume that could be heard, but was quiet enough to have a conversation at a normal speaking voice. The lighting is darker than most places, but I liked it once I adjusted to it.
I highly recommend Spencer’s Chophouse & Tavern. We are definitely coming back when we are back in the area.

Ordered a Bloody Mary took 20 minutes to get it. The place was not busy when I arrived at 6:20. Was 7 before she asked for my order. Salad was wilted. Ordered steak Oscar the steak was great! But the asparagus was only half edible. Disappointing meal and service for an expensive restaurant!
